How LSU football players performed in track and field as prospects

How LSU football players performed in track and field as prospects

The month of May marks the end of the outdoor track and field season in both high school and college for the 2023 season. In that time, some of the top football prospects across the country show their speed and strength in various events. Camp circuits and verified 40-yard times continue to hold plenty of weight, but the dedication and competition in a track setting holds more and more weight with college coaches these days.

Through the years, we’ve seen great players have standout track seasons and show their potential for the next level.

Here, we’re going to rundown the best high school track performances from players on LSU’s football team.

*All numbers are verified by AthleticNet

Wide receivers

Chris Hilton (2021)

100 – 10.85

200 – 21.33

400 – 47.5

High Jump – 6’8”

Aaron Anderson (2022)

100 – 10.77

200 – 22.77

Jalen Brown (2023)

100 – 10.65

200 – 20.98

Khai Prean (2023)

100 – 10.93

200 – 22.50

Kyle Parker (2023)

100 – 10.89

200 – 23.67

With these numbers, we are reminded just how special of a prospect Hilton was out of Zachary. Those who followed his recruitment know the speed and the potential for Hilton, but so far, injuries have been his biggest hurdle. We saw during the spring game that the offense took shots in his direction, but we’ll see how much he can contribute in 2023.

Anderson and Brown are known speedsters who were highly-rated four star prospects largely based on their speed even though they operate in different ways on the football field. Anderson’s short-area quickness makes him lethal in tight spaces, while Brown has the potential to take the top off defenses with his speed.

Parker and Prean both posted some solid sub-11 numbers which is encouraging. Prean is known for his elusiveness in various roles, while Parker is a polished receiver who hopes to contribute early in his career.

More offense

4-star RB Kaleb Jackson commits to LSU. (On3)

RB Kaleb Jackson (2023)

100 – 10.61

200 – 22.33

RB Armoni Goodwin (2021)

100 – 10.78

200 – 24.05

QB Jayden Daniels (2019)

100 – 11.37

200 – 23.64

Jackson was a standout this offseason posting an incredibly impressive 100-meter time, just months after recovering from an ankle injury that ended his senior season. The Baton Rouge native dropped outside of the top 10 in the On3 Industry rankings, but clearly has the potential LSU needs at the running back position.

Goodwin set a 60-meter record in Alabama before departing for LSU and his 100 time is pretty impressive as well. The shorter the distance, the better for Goodwin who has shown flashes of being an incredibly dynamic back for the Tigers. Injuries have kept him sidelined, though, so we’ll see how he bounces back.

For a quarterback, these times are amazing from Daniels. As he now goes into his fifth year of college football, the speed and elusiveness is still evident and once again will be a pivotal part of LSU’s offense.

Defense

2023 4-star LSU commit Ryan Yaites. (Billy Embody – On3)

DB Ryan Yaites (2023)

200 – 21.61

CB Javien Toviano (2023)

200 – 23.15

DB Jeremiah Hughes (2023)

100 -11.39

200 – 22.80

CB Laterrance Welch (2022)

100 – 11.39

DB Matthew Langlois (2021)

100 – 10.79 (3.3)

200 – 22.33

Langlois had the most impressive 100 time here as this number beat his previous personal best by nearly a half second. Another player who had his first two seasons derailed by injuries, we’ll see if he can get back.

Yaites’ 200 time is the third best of any player on the team, showing his potential athleticism in the back end for LSU in coming years.

Throwing events

Ka’Morreun Pimpton (2023)

Shot put – 54’10”

Discus – 160’10”

DJ Chester (2023)

Shot Put- 58’8”

Discus – 174’10”

Pimpton’s numbers are extremely impressive, but Chester won state in both events with those results. For Pimpton, it just adds more excitement to his future in Baton Rouge. We knew he was a special athlete at 6-foot-6, but that type of strength further shows his potential.

Chester will step in over the summer and immediately look to contribute on the interior of the offensive line. With the uncertainty of depth behind the starters at guard and the competition at center, Chester should be able to come in and compete on the second unit immediately.
