Tidbits: Can SMU land a pair of top RBs?
SMU brought in another top running back target as the staff is trending to land one of the nation’s best backs. Can the Mustangs land both prospects?
*** Leading off with some notes on the official visit weekend, everyone expected in made it in, which is great for the staff. SMU took the entire group out to the Park City Club, which offers a great view of the Dallas skyline from afar and a setting to have dinner and kick off the weekend right. From there, players went out with their hosts while the coaches spent time with the parents. Saturday starts a full day of breakfast, lunch, position meetings, academic meetings, Life After Ball and more before Saturday night’s big dinner. More on that Sunday morning.
*** SMU is the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine leader for four-star Richland (Tex.) running back Michael Turner, the No. 3 running back in America for On3. Turner has an official visit to SMU on May 17. He visited TCU on May 3. He was recently there for a visit and the Horned Frogs could be SMU’s biggest competition. Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State and Washington are others Turner mentioned. That said, I love where the Mustangs sit for Turner. I’ve placed an On3 RPM pick for the Mustangs to land Turner, joining On3’s Chad Simmons.
*** SMU brought in Conroe (Tex.) running back Dramekco Green for an official visit this weekend. The staff has made a big push here and is hoping to beat out hometown Houston for him. SMU analyst Tyler Foster went and visited him earlier this spring and as the spring has unfolded, we’ve seen the staff turn up the heat. There’s some thought that SMU’s closed the gap with Houston while programs like TCU just offered while Kansas State and others are making their move. If SMU knocks the official visit out of the park, maybe he doesn’t take future visits. He brought his mom, siblings and aunt with him. The staff sees him similar to another former Houston area standout turned Mustang, Xavier Jones. Green is also a natural pass catcher, which is a plus. It wouldn’t surprise me if Green ends up ranked among the state’s best backs when it’s all said and done. That’d be quite the haul if SMU can pull of Turner and Green.
