Top 100 WR Quincy Porter impressed by school visit from Michigan’s entire offensive staff
Michigan has been making Top 100 Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic wide receiver Quincy Porter one of its top overall priorities this cycle.
The Wolverines have a desperate need for a game changing big-bodied pass catcher like Porter and showed him how much they want him by sending their entire offensive staff to his high school last week.
“It was great,” Porter said. “My mom wasn’t able to show up, but it was me, my brother and my dad. It was mostly just building relationships and things like that. We had some questions about the school. They gave us great answers. It was a great conversation.”
Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy is leading the way in this recruitment, but area recruiter Grant Newsome and offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell are involved as well.
All three made strong impressions on Porter and his family.
“I have a great relationship with Coach Bellamy,” Porter said. “It was fun to see him again. I was able to see Coach Newsome, who I’ve known for a while. It was also good getting to know Coach Campbell. I like them all a lot.”
Porter just visited Michigan earlier this spring and enjoyed his time on campus.
“It was good,” Porter said. “The biggest highlight was watching practice. It was good to see the way Coach (Sherrone) Moore runs practice. It was great to see Coach Bellamy work with the receivers. That part was probably the highlight of practice.”
Porter is now set to return to Michigan for an official visit on June 14.
“I’m not really expecting anything,” Porter said. “It’s more about getting a better feel for everything.”
Porter will also make official visits to Ohio State (June 7) and Oklahoma (June 21). Others like Alabama, Georgia and Penn State are still involved as well. Porter is looking to make a decision late in the summer.
Porter said his commitment will come down to three important factors.
“For me, the three major factors are going to be having the chance to win a national championship, education and a place that can help get me to the next level,” Porter said.
Porter is ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver and No. 48 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the state of New Jersey this cycle.
Michigan has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 38.7 percent chance of landing him.
