A closer look at QB target General Booty
The Iowa Hawkeyes are badly in need of quarterback depth from the transfer portal this spring and one name that appears to be on their board right now is General Booty. In this update, we take a closer look at the 6-foot-2, 197-pound Booty, who spent the past two years at Oklahoma, what he has done in his college career to date, the potential fit at Iowa, and more.
General Booty Background
The son of Abram Booty, who played college football at LSU, General Axel Booty was born February 6, 2002. While his father was a wide receiver, uncles Josh and John David Booty played quarterback in college and the NFL, and that is where General found his calling as well.
After moving around from California to Texas, Booty spent his senior year of high school in Allen (TX) where he threw for 2,235 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 401 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020. From there, he went to Tyler Junior College, where he started 12 games in 2021, completing 266 of 436 pass attempts (61.0%) for 3,410 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushing for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns as well.

Booty’s Career at Oklahoma
After one year at junior college, Booty signed with Oklahoma in the Class of 2022. There, he appeared in one game each of the past two seasons, but recorded no statistics. In the Sooners’ spring game on April 20 of this year, he rushed for a 32-yard touchdown, but entered the transfer portal shortly afterwards to pursue other opportunities.
Iowa Outlook
While Booty likely does not have the resume to come in and compete for a starting job right away, he does have two years of eligibility remaining and experience as a Division I backup. Right now, that is at least part of what Iowa may be looking for with a quarterback room that is down to Cade McNamara and Marco Lainez on campus with true freshman James Resar set to arrive in June.
