4-star OL is receiving priority treatment from Gators’ Rob Sale

4-star OL is receiving priority treatment from Gators’ Rob Sale

KISSIMMEE, FL. — As for the Sunshine State’s 2026 class, there are not many better along the offensive front than Vero Beach (Fla.) standout Micah Smith.

The 4-star prospect has already collected 25-plus offers and was recently visited by several of them at school. One of them was the University of Florida.

Smith, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, is the No. 9 offensive tackle and No. 90 prospect overall.

“It’s going good (with Florida),” Smith told Gators Online at Saturday’s OT7 event. “I saw them the other day at my school. We had a good little conversation, so it was good seeing them.”

The staff member Smith is referring to is co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Rob Sale.

“He said he doesn’t want to reach out to me about coming to Florida; he wants me to feel comfortable just showing up there at Florida,” Smith said of Sale’s message.

The Gators’ head man is making his presence felt with the 6-foot-5.5, 300-pound lineman as well.

“I feel like coach (Billy) Napier is a real humble guy,” Smith said. “He’s a Christian, so I really like that about him.”

Smith is prepping for a jam-packed month of June

One thing is for certain: Smith is no stranger to the recruiting process despite only being a sophomore.

Indiana became offer No. 1 during the summer of 2022, and since then, Smith has logged nearly a dozen visits. Two of them were at Florida, with the most recent visit having taken place on Jan. 13.

“The one offensive line coach (Darnell Stapleton) left, but they’re up there,” Smith said of Florida’s standing in his recruitment.

If all goes as planned, the On300 prospect will be returning to Gainesville in June. That will allow him to meet co-offensive line coach John Decoster, who he has yet to speak with.

Additional visit destinations in June include Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville and Cincinnati. Those four are part of a college bus tour.

UCF, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, holds the slight advantage over Miami, Florida and Florida State, respectively.
