Sophomore ATH Mark Bowman receives offer from Nebraska while on unofficial visit

Sophomore ATH Mark Bowman receives offer from Nebraska while on unofficial visit

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei tight end Mark Bowman was in Lincoln with Mater Dei quarterback Furian Inferrera. The two teammates checked out the Nebraska spring game, and Bowman got a chance to meet the Nebraska staff. The Huskers offered Bowman on Friday afternoon, and can see the 6-foot-4 and 215-pound Bowman playing tight end in their offense.

“I had a great visit,” Bowman said. “The facilities there are top-tier, and the coaches I met were cool people in general, and I could see myself playing for them.”

Bowman met several of the coaches on Friday. Inferrera’s father is close with one of the Nebraska assistant coaches, which helped Bowman meet and talk to more people. He also got a tour of the new facilities.

“I got to talk to some coaches before the game. Furian’s dad is close with coach Raiola. We got to hang out with him and talk with Coach Rhule and Coach Satterfield at the HUDL headquarters. They were cool people and easy to talk to.

“I got to see the facilities. We were in the indoor and moved to the recovery facilities and then saw the weight room. That was cool. They are very nice.”

The game environment at Nebraska is something Bowman has never seen before. He was blown away by the fans that showed up for a spring game to see the Huskers play.

“The people love their football,” Bowman said. “That’s what they want to watch and came to see. It’s the main attraction. It’s cool to see people want to see those guys play, perform, and care for you.

“Being there this weekend was very different than any game I have been to. The biggest game I have been to before was Colorado State. It was a cool experience. The people were freaking out in the hotel, asking me if I was a recruit. It was a great experience.”

Mark Bowman can see himself playing combo TE role at Nebraska

The Huskers can see Bowman playing as a tight end in their offense, and that is fine with him. He picked up that Nebraska likes to run a lot of heavy tight-end personnel alignments, and he can see playing the combo tight-end role for the Huskers.

“Nebraska likes me as a tight end,” Bowman said. “I know that they run like 12 or 13 personnel a lot. They showed me the line F position and then a combo, and I can see myself playing it. The combo is a player that can run any type of route and can still block.”

“The best thing for me about the visit was seeing how much the people there care about their football team,” Bowman said. “I have never been to somewhere like Nebraska. A tornado was going through the town one day, and we were at the game the next day.”

Bowman says that he has plans to travel to Florida this weekend, but his schedule is open after that. He would like to return to Nebraska, but with his quarterback and hopefully for a game in the fall.

“I am going to Orlando this weekend for a seven-on-seven tournament. After that, my schedule is pretty much open. I would for sure would like to get back to Nebraska when they are playing a game. Furian and I really like Nebraska and it’s a place we want to see again together.”
