Latest SMU Basketball transfer portal buzz

SMU Basketball’s staff continues to attack the transfer portal, looking to add talent to the roster as the Mustangs enter the Andy Enfield era.

*** SMU is hosting a visitor this weekend. I haven’t nailed down a name yet, but I’m told it’s one the staff is excited about so I’ll be trying to dig up more as the weekend goes along. The staff keeps getting involved with transfers and I think there’s still a silent commitment sitting out there somewhere.

*** Former Bethune-Cookman transfer point guard Zion Harmon is someone I’m hearing more and more about with SMU. Arizona State, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and others have been in contact with him. I’m hearing he’s visiting SMU at some point. The former Top 100 prospect has had a tough road away from the court, but after returning to college action, he’s been impressive.

Harmon earned first-team All-SWAC honors this season after being named SWAC Rookie of the Year last year. The 6-foot-0 guard averaged 14.6 points and 4.0 assists. Harmon is originally from Kentucky and started his college career at Western Kentucky, where he redshirted, dealing with personal issues.

*** A name to keep on the radar is UCSB big man Yohan Traore. The Mustangs hosted him and impressed on the visit, I’ve heard. There are still other programs lurking around here and we’ve not heard enough to think this is a done deal, but he remains on the radar. Traore averaged 14.5 points per game for the Gauchos, starting all 30 games he played and averaging nearly 29 minutes a night. UCF, Arizona State, Texas Tech, TCU and others have shown him serious interest.

*** SMU is among the schools in contact with Old Dominion transfer Chaunce Jenkins. He’ll visit Seton Hall on Tuesday and is also talking with Georgia, Utah, Oklahoma State, VCU and UNLV, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. Jenkins earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors this season after being named third-team last season. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 15.9 points and 2.7 assists. The redshirt junior is originally from Newport News, Virginia, and started his college career at Wichita State.
