3 things I know, 3 things I think I know

3 things I know, 3 things I think I know

It’s Friday so that means another round of ‘3 Things I Know, 3 Things I Think I Know’.

It’s simply what the title says – ‘3 Things I Know, 3 Things I Think I Know’. Today we look at several 2025 targets for Mississippi State football and transfer targets along with team news:

3 Things I Know

I know that Mississippi State is in a good position with 2025 receiver and On3 composite four-star prospect Anson Lewis. Also a solid defensive back, Lewis has taken multiple trips to Mississippi State this spring and also plans to officially visit Mississippi State this summer. He has talked well lately of his relationship with receivers coach Chad Bumphis along with his excitement of Jeff Lebby’s offensive system.

So far, Lewis is also planning to make his college decision this summer and he also holds SEC offers from Ole Miss, Missouri and Arkansas. The Columbia High School standout is definitely one of State’s top receiver priorities in this class along with Caleb Cunningham and Jacob Washington among others. With his decision timeframe, it is obvious that how his summer official visits play out could determine his college future.

I know that Mississippi State remains in great position with 2025 linebacker prospect LaKendrick James of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Due to NCAA rules for non-qualifiers, the Magnolia State native has not been able to take any unofficial visits this spring but he will begin that process this summer. James holds offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss among others along with steady interest from Auburn.

So far the Bulldogs have linebacker commits from Tyshun Willis and AJ Rice in the Class of 2025. But James and On3 four-star prospect Tyler Lockhart remain top priorities, as well. James has talked often of possibly making his college decision late in the summer and State has been his top favorite ever since the Bulldogs extended an offer several months ago.

I know that Mississippi State remains squarely in the mix with 2025 defensive back Jeremiah Alvis of Helena (Ala.) High School. Alvis holds several SEC offers and while listed as a cornerback, he is also drawing interest as a safety at the next level, including Mississippi State. Alvis has taken in several unofficial visits this spring and that includes multiple trips to Starkville.

Alvis was a target for State’s previous staff, as well, and has built a good bond with State safeties coach Matt Barnes. He is looking to experience multiple official visits this summer and I expect that to include an official visit to State. Ole Miss, Missouri and Arkansas are also serious options for Alvis, who is also wanting to make his college decision before his senior season kicks off.

3 Things I Think I Know

I think I know that 2025 defensive lineman prospect London Simmons is among the next instate prospects to keep an eye on this summer. The Hartfield Academy standout collected several Division 1 offers early in his recruiting process but saw his recruiting process take another step earlier this week with an offer from Alabama.

Mississippi State has showed regular interest in Simmons along with his teammate in athlete prospect Kenzy West, who is also starting to blow up on the recruiting trail. I expect Simmons to add more SEC offers down the road and I expect we see him camp at Mississippi State this summer along with other camp stops. The Bulldogs are also recruiting his teammate – fellow defensive lineman prospect Reginald Vaughn – in the Class of 2025.

I think I know that Mississippi State is in the mix with UNC-Wilimington transfer small forward Trazarien White. The former first-team All-CAA selection averaged 19.8 points and 6.8 rebounds last season and as expected, he has heard from numerous schools since entering the transfer portal on Thursday morning. That includes Mississippi State, Baylor, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Gonzaga and Kentucky among several others.

Also on Thursday, White told Maroon and White Daily he wants to take the weekend to evaluate all of the teams showing him interest. Then he wants to cut down his list of options to four schools and start taking official visits next week. White also noted that he doesn’t want to drag out his recruiting process and wants to make his decision within the next 9-10 days. So far in this offseason, State has picked up transfers from Penn State guard Kanye Clary, Boston College guard Claudell Harris and Miami center Michael Nwoko.

And lastly today, I think I know that we will see at least 4-5 more players transfer out of Mississippi State’s program before the spring transfer portal window closes on April 30th. Of course, most of that is needed to make room for the incoming freshmen that will enroll in June along with adding other transfers in the future.

Since the spring transfer window opened, a total of 10 players have entered the transfer portal from Mississippi State. At last check, that numbers put Mississippi State at 84 current scholarships for the 2024 season, which includes several incoming freshmen. So in order to make more room for other transfers, State still needs more attrition to take play between now and next week.
