Jacksonville WR Myles Kendrick talks Michigan State spring game visit; looks ahead to official visit

Michigan State welcomed class of 2025 wide receiver Myles Kendrick, of Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside High School for an unofficial visit during the spring game showcase event on April 20. It was the first visit to East Lansing for the Florida receiver as he was offered by Michigan State on March 18.

Kendrick (6-0, 170) is not yet ranked by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He holds other offers from Indiana, Colorado, Southern Florida, and others.

“(Michigan State) was the biggest power four school to offer me so far,” Kendrick said. “My mom, she is real big on me getting out of Florida to go see the country and things like that. So we took the trip to see what their coaches were talking about.”

Spartan secondary coach Blue Adams stopped in Riverside High School as he is assigned the area on the recruiting trail. Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, along with offensive assistant Cordale Grundy have taken over the communication.

“Coach Adams actually came to my school and got my interest in their program first,” Kendrick said. “Ever since then it has been Coach Hawk and Coach Grundy.”

As Kendrick arrived in East Lansing, he was able to tour the new Tom Izzo Football Facilities. He also met up with Hawkins and Grundy before heading to Spartan Stadium for the spring scrimmage.

“We got to tour the facilities and talk to coaches when we got there,” Kendrick said. “That is probably the biggest weight room I have ever seen. The facilities were cool, I could definitely see myself in there.

“I was talking to Coach Hawk and Coach Grundy the whole time until the spring game,” Kendrick continued. “They walked us over to the stadium. We watched the game and got back with them afterwards.”

Hawkins made a strong impression on the Florida receiver during the visit. Kendrick enjoyed learning more about the position coach.

“I could definitely see us growing a real, real close relationship,” Kendrick said. “Even through he would be my coach, I could see him as like an uncle, or a dad, a big brother. He reassured us that he has an open door policy for anything going on, on or off the field. His guys don’t have to be scared to ask or let him know.”

Kendrick has also built a strong relationship with Grundy, as the Michigan State assistant even made sure to check in after the trip.

“I talk to him a little bit more than Coach Hawkins,” Kendrick said. “He texts me like everyday. He called me to check on me and make sure I made it home safely and things like that. I definitely see us having a tight relationship.”

While watching the scrimmage, Kendrick was imagining his fit in the offense. The receiver feels like the Michigan State offense is a good match for his game.

“First of all, I like how they offense implements everyone,” Kendrick said. “Freshman, sophomore, it really doesn’t matter the grade, if you are ready to play then your ready to play.

“Just seeing how their new offense is running, I could definitely see myself a part of that. Coach Hawkins, he was reinstating that to me too. With their new offense that they have, they have a lot of quick screens and bubbles. Coach Hawk said he was watching my film and things like that and said ‘we need to get you the ball in space because we know you are a playmaker’.”

Kendrick will return to Michigan State for an official visit on June 14. The Florida receiver looks forward to more time with the rest of the Spartan coaching staff.

“That trip, with it being an official visit I will be up there for a couple days and I already got to see a little bit of how everyone competes and all that,” Kendrick said. “Just see more of the facilities. Then to build a bond with some of the other position coaches, just to build that bond with them while up there. I can’t wait to be up there again.”
