Miami legacy 3-star LB Chris Cole talks interest in Canes with official visit date set: “I have high interest in Miami”

Miami has pushed hard for Salem (Va.) 2024 three-star linebacker Chris Cole since his April visit to Coral Gables, which included checking up on the No. 912 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking at his school Tuesday.

He’s locked in his June 23 official visit to Miami along with official visits to Penn State June 2; Notre Dame June 9; and Georgia June 16. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker’s stock has continued to climb in 2023, but so has his Miami interest. He’s also the nephew of former Miami linebacker Rohan Marley.

“I’d say I have high interest in Miami right now,” Cole said. “We’ve built a good relationship, and I’ll be taking an official visit with them, so I’m super excited about that. But I’ve 100% got interest. We’ve got a good relationship with each other.”

Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson stopped by Salem to watch Cole’s morning workout and talks to the class’s No. 100 linebacker daily. Cole said he feels like he’s talked to the whole staff regularly, including head coach Mario Cristobal, and says no one has recruited him with the same effort as Miami.

“For Miami, we’ve got a whole group chat with me, my mom and just the whole staff and the head coach, and we chat every day,” Cole said. “No other program has done that yet, so that’s different.”

So where does it place the Canes on his radar?

“I would say they’re up there,” Cole said. “I wouldn’t say they’re at the top of it, but they’re up there with the other schools.”

Cole said he feels like it’s too early to determine a clear frontrunner in his recruitment and is continuing to evaluate his options as new offers role in. He landed an Alabama offer Tuesday afternoon and is still trying to sort things out, but he said the programs he visited this spring (Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Maryland, just to name a few) in addition to the programs he’s scheduled official visits to have stood out to him.

Cole also has an On3 NIL Valuation of $23k.

He said he wants to visit USC, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Oregon and Stanford this summer, among others. Relationships and player development will continue to be the two biggest factors in his recruitment.

Cole hopes to commit sometime in late summer or early fall.

CaneSport’s Take

Cole has been one of the more impressive three-star prospects in this class and has a massive offer spread of well over two dozen programs, including the last two national champions. His 86.00 Industry Grade only speaks a fraction to the potential Miami and other programs see in him, and more offers continue to roll in.

Make no mistake, landing Cole would be a major get for the Canes.
