2025 receiver Jacob Washington talks recent Mississippi State visits and summer officials
Archbishop Shaw (La.) High School’s Jacob Washington has grown comfortable on Mississippi State’s campus this year. The 2025 receiver and On3 three-star prospect has made multiple trips to Starkville this spring and was back on campus last weekend for Super Bulldog Weekend.
Washington’s brother – Joshua Washington – is a Mississippi State tight end so naturally, Washington has learned a lot from his brother about the Bulldogs’ program. He also got to see head coach Jeff Lebby’s offense in a scrimmage-type situation last Saturday. Washington is rated as the nation’s No. 53 receiver and the state’s No. 11 prospect by On3.
“It was a memorable visit,” remarked Washington. “It was memorable to just see that environment and get to see them practice. It good to see the new coaching staff and to see how fired up everybody was.”
Each time Washington has observed the State offense, he’s been impressed with the way the Bulldogs push the ball down field. And that is quite a difference from previous offenses at State.
“It was good to see their offense and watch them scrimmage,” noted the 6-foot-3 and 180-pound Washington. “I like their explosive plays and they had a lot in the offense. Everything was down the field, down the field, and explosive. It is a very tempo offense.”
During those multiple trips to Starkville, Washington has also built solid bonds with Lebby and receivers coach Chad Bumphis. He noted of their recent conversations and he continues to feel like a priority for the Bulldogs.
“I got to hang around Coach Bumphis a lot,” Washington added. “I also had a good conversation with Coach Lebby, as well, and I talked to a couple of their other offensive coaches like the running backs coach and the tight ends coach. They made me feel very welcoming and it felt like home.
“They were talking about me making a decision early. We talked about how my spring was going and the rest of my plans for the spring.”
On the recruiting trail, Washington holds Power 5 offers from Mississippi State, Michigan, Penn State, Miami, Arkansas, Missouri and Ole Miss among others. So far he has one official visit set for the summer and is in talks about setting up another official visit for the summer period.
“The last visit I will be going on this spring was the Mississippi State’s spring game,” Washington mentioned. “I won’t be going on any other visits after that until the summer. Then this summer I have an official visit set with Georgia Tech. On Saturday when I visited, I was also talking to Mississippi State about setting up an official visit there this summer.”
Also this summer, Washington mentioned that his college decision could be made during that timeframe. He is keeping an open mind about favorites right now and like most recruits, he is looking for the right place to call home.
“I am still high on making my decision in the summer,” Washington said. “I am still wide open right now. I am an open book just looking for the right fit and the right place to spend my next four or five years.”
