NC State a contender for elite ’25 CB Tyler Redmond
Tyler Redmond picked up his first Division-I offer from NC State the summer before his sophomore season, but his relationship with the Pack extends back even further. Now, the program is a lock to make the sophomore’s top schools list.
NC State established itself as a consistent presence in the safety’s recruitment dating back to the spring of his freshman year, and Redmond plans on strongly considering the the Wolfpack moving forward.
Cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell is a significant reason why he decided to visit Raleigh April 7-8.
“Me and coach Mitchell have a good relationship, and me and my family really like NC State,” Redmond said.
The Wolfpack assistant coach first visited Milton (Ga.) High to see the class of 2025 defensive back last year and encouraged him to attend a camp that summer. Redmond ended up meeting with Mitchell afterwards, which is when he picked up the offer.
NC State’s early interest meant a lot. It is still very early in the sophomore’s recruitment, but the Wolfpack are in a great spot with the star defensive back.
“They’ll definitely be up there in my list, however big that list is,” Redmond said.
Redmond saw NC State practice and play in its rain-soaked spring game while on his visit. The Pack coaching staff is recruiting him to play cornerback, and he is a big fan of Mitchell and the players he develops in Raleigh.
“He showed me that they were top in the ACC in picks,” Redmond said. “He’s a great coach. He’s not even a coach, he’s like a father figure, one of those old-head coaches.”
Head coach Dave Doeren also took time during the defensive back’s visit to meet with Redmond and his family. He quickly hit it off with the sophomore’s father.
“My dad likes to talk to him,” Redmond said. “He’s a Chiefs fan, and my dad’s a Chief’s fan also, so the connection was already like that. I like coach Doeren… He’s been there, and it doesn’t look like he’s planning on leaving, so that’s good.”
The cornerback plans on returning to Raleigh this fall for a game day. He visited Carter-Finley Stadium for the 2022 win over Florida State and said the environment was a pleasant surprise.
“Everybody was talking about how it is going to be sold out and stuff so, when I went, the atmosphere was crazy,” Redmond said. “It was even more than I expected really.”
Clemson, Tennessee, Ohio State and Alabama are all recruiting the 6-1, 175-pound defensive back as well, and he visited each of those schools during the spring. NC State leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 47.1 percent.
