Priority four-star OL target Avery Gach talk spring trips to Michigan, Top 4 list, commitment date

One of the top Michigan targets and 2025 in-state prospects is close to shutting down his recruitment. Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach is scheduled to announce a commitment on May 3 after releasing a Top 4 list, which included the Wolverines, who’ve prioritized the four-star for well over a year.

“It should be good,” Gach told The Wolverine. “I’m excited to get the stress off and just let everyone know where I’m going.”

Michigan made the cut alongside Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan State, citing family atmospheres and culture.

“I feel good about it,” Gach said. “It was the schools I wanted to focus on, so I feel good.”

Last weekend, Gach returned to Michigan for the spring game, his third offseason trip to Ann Arbor. He also attended spring camp practices on March 22 and April 7.

“I felt like the spring game went well,” Gach said. “I liked the commits that they have there. So, I was talking to them about how it went for them. It was just cool seeing them compete out there.”

The trio of returns allowed Gach to form close bonds with head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome, who are leading the way for the No. 2 ranked in-state prospect this cycle.

“They really want to coach me,” Gach said. “They think that I could have a very big role to help this class. It starts out front, so I could be the guy up front.”

Coming out of the spring game, Michigan landed a commitment from Top 100 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick EDGE Nate Marshall, the No. 40 overall recruit nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. The exhibition was the setting for Gach to meet Marshall.

“He seems like a really nice kid. I hear that he’s a really good player,” Gach said.

Two other Michigan commits were at The Big House on Saturday – On300 Ft. Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. Gach built a relationship with Smith over the phone over the last few months, and he’s known Kanka for years because of their close proximity.

“Carter is so cool,” Gach said. “I like him a lot. He seems like a leader. He’s personable. It seems like he knows and wants to win. He just wants us to be teammates. He said that we could win a championship together.

“Another cool kid. (Kanka is) a good player. He’s been committed there for a while now. He seems like he’s a really nice kid and wants the best for me.”

Gach has made nine unofficial visits to Michigan in total. He said his familiarity with the facilities has strengthened over the past month.

“Comfort is number one because I’ve been there three times this spring,” Gach said. “So, I got to know campus a little bit better now.”

At 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, Gach is also listed as the No. 19 overall interior offensive lineman in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services.
