Nebraska is in the mix with Northern Illinois transfer forward Xavier Amos
Nebraska’s search for more frontcourt help continues, and a new name has surfaced on the Huskers’ radar.
A source told HuskerOnline that NU is in the mix with Northern Illinois transfer forward Xavier Amos, and a visit to Lincoln could come next week.
A 6-foot-8, 215-pound sophomore from Chicago, Amos averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.3 blocks last season for the Huskies. That included hitting a blistering 38.5% on 104 attempts from 3-point range.
He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Amos brings versatility on both ends of the floor
The former Chicago Whitney Young product has been a hot commodity since entering the NCAA Transfer Portal last month.
Kansas, Texas, Virginia, Illinois, Rutgers, Xavier, and Cal have all been in contact. He is visiting Virginia this weekend.
Amos started 25 games and averaged 30.9 minutes per game as a sophomore at NIU. He posted eight 20-point efforts, including a career-high 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting (4-of-5 on 3-pointers) at Northwestern.
Amos told On3 that his versatility on both ends of the floor would be an asset at the high-major level.
“I want to go somewhere I can be an impact player,” Amos said. “I want to grow as a player and continue learning the game. I’m able to play in a lot of different systems, but I want to go somewhere I can be a benefit. I’m comfortable playing up-tempo, but I can still be beneficial with my length and skill in a slower pace.
“I want to go to the NBA, so I want to go to a program that I know will help me develop into an NBA player.”
Head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff have three available scholarships remaining for the 2024-25 season.
