New DB target emerges in Tennessee … and he’ll visit Gators next week
Donovan Starr, a 3-star cornerback from Brentwood (Tn.) Ravenwood, met members of the Florida Gators coaching staff for the first time Tuesday when three of them visited his school.
Before long, the program had offered him a scholarship.
“I’m definitely interested,” Starr told Gators Online. “They’re probably up there in my top six, top eight.”
Now, Starr plans to take the next step with Florida. He said he will visit the Gators next weekend.
“I want to see the facilities, meet the players and talk to them, see where they stay — stuff like that,” Starr said. “See how they practice.”
Additionally, an official visit seems possible.
“They brought it up,” Starr said.
Donovan Starr has more than 2 dozen offers
Starr, listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds, now claims 27 offers.
He said Tuesday his top schools currently are “North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, probably Florida. And I’m going to Clemson on Friday. They haven’t offered but I’m pretty sure they will.”
From that group, the Tar Heels and Commodores stand out — at the moment.
Tuesday, Florida secondary coach Will Harris, defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and co-defensive coordinator Ron Roberts all visited Starr’s school.
“They said they wanted to offer me in person,” Starr said. “They talked to me a whole bunch. They’re good dudes. They kept it real. Coach Harris was with the Chargers. He told me I have what it takes to get to the next level. It makes me feel good to heart that. It really boosts my confidence. I know he’s the type of coach who could develop me to get me there.”
The coaches made a great impression on Starr, particularly Harris.
“He told me he brought his staff there for a reason,” Starr said.
Can Florida move toward the top of his list? It might still be too soon to know.
“I probably need to see more and build more of a relationship,” Starr said.
According to Starr, he’d like to have a commitment decision by mid-summer.
