Elite 2025 LB Riley Pettijohn and his family continue to be impressed by Texas program
The Texas spring game over the weekend saw the Longhorns host a few of their top targets in the 2025 recruiting class. It was a group that included McKinney (Texas) High On300 linebacker Riley Pettijohn.
The Longhorns are battling Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Texas A&M for the sought-after, second-level defender, and head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff continue to create an environment Pettijohn and his family feel comfortable in.
“Yes we enjoyed our time at UT’s spring game,” Pettijohn’s father Duke said. “We were all impressed with the game day like energy and excitement there was for a spring game.”
Texas is fresh off a College Football Playoff appearance and head into SEC play this year as one of the favorites to win the championship this fall.
“I liked that Coach Sark allowed the guys to get after it and actually tackle and no one got hurt!” the elder Pettijohn said. He was an all-Big East player at Syracuse. “The biggest takeaway we had was the amount of talent at every position and the recruits that were in attendance gave a glimpse as to what they have in their pipeline. They have a great linebacker room and system that I feel Riley would fit and thrive just fine.”
Texas currently has On3’s No. 8 ranked recruiting class as Sarkisian and his staff push for a fourth-straight Top 10 haul. The Longhorns are the On3 RPM favorite for Pettijohn.
“Overall we like the direction of the program and people they have there supporting these young men like Coach (Jahmal) Fenner and Coach (Chris) Gilbert,” Duke said.
The On3 Industry tabs Pettijohn as the nation’s No. 2 linebacker and No. 39 prospect overall. He has three officials set for the summer with Ohio State getting a trip the weekend of May 31, USC set for June 7, Texas a go for June 14 and Texas A&M is a maybe for June 21. Every one of these programs got a visit during the spring as well.
As a Pettijohn he racked up 125 tackles including eight stops for loss, three sacks, four quarterback hurries, five passes defended and an interception.
