New Prediction for Sooners Leads News of Big Visit Weekend
Oklahoma’s big visit weekend may have been loaded with numerous big-time prospects, and one new commitment, but only one prospect was taking his official visit. That player was, of course, Elgin, Okla. offensive lineman Antoni Kade Ogumoro. The big blocker, who hails from Saipan, made his third trip to Norman in a little over a month. And in doing so became the earliest official visit of the Brent Venables era.
The family hit Norman on Friday and made sure to maximize their time on campus on Sunday. Though his brother and father had to return home on Sunday morning Ogumoro and his mother remained through the the day.
As for Ogumoro himself, the visit seems to be a continuation of the Sooners momentum.
“It was an amazing visit,” Ogumoro said.
The Sooners continue to make a positive impact on his recruitment and it’s enough that the Scoop staff has decided to put in a prediction for Oklahoma with him.
Sooners Make New Offer in Utah
One of the more under the radar visitors was Lehi (Utah) Skyridge offensive lineman Darius Afalava. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound big man hadn’t been prominently mentioned with the Sooners much prior to the last week or so. However, things picked up quickly and Afalava landed his offer while in Norman.
So what were his biggest impressions at Oklahoma?
“Man it all went well I really like Oklahoma now,” Afalava said. “[Coach Bill Bedenbaugh], he’s real, if that makes sense.
“I feel like he doesn’t lie and he is a hard-coaching person which is what I’m about.”
And Bedenbaugh remembered the golden rule of recruiting – always be recruiting mom.
“And he treated my mom very well,” Utah’s No. 3 prospect said.
Afalava says an official visit is already in the works but won’t be finalized until next month.
“Coach B is coming out in May to work on that,” he said.
Sooners Impress Elite WR Offer
Few players made it a bigger secret where they’d be this weekend than Katy (Texas) Jordan standout Andrew Marsh. The big man let Emmett Jones know he’d be in Norman this weekend. And though Marsh isn’t one to give away much he did say Oklahoma is gaining some ground.
“They are climbing,” Marsh said before his Norman visit.
A big part of the trip was, not surprisingly, getting to hang out with Jones. But even within that Marsh talked about the second-year Sooners assistant and his relationship with the program in general.
“OU has shown me a lot over the years. Now going into SEC I want to see how they will handle things,” he said on Sunday. “The value for me coming back (to Oklahoma) it allows me to be more comfortable with the coaches. [Also] to grow my bond with coach Jones and learn the environment. [Jones] is a laid back guy who is easy to talk to.
“Trust is important to me and I look for consistency.”
In-State Star Back in Familiar ‘Home’
In the class of 2026, the early No. 1 prospect in the state of Oklahoma is Jenks star running back Kaydin Jones. The big-time back, and son of former Sooner Kejuan Jones, had a simple message to summarize his weekend in Norman.
“It was good as usual, always great getting back home.”
