Blue-chip prospects give highlights from Florida State spring game
Florida State had some of the nation’s top prospects on campus to watch Saturday’s spring game, as head coach Mike Norvell and his staff continue to work on a recruiting class that On3 ranks No. 10 nationally.
Coveted targets on campus included Mesquite (Texas) Horn On300 offensive tackle Lamont Rogers, two of the top running backs on the board in Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage’s Byron Louis and Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County’s Ousmane Kromah and Tallahassee (Fla.) Rikards On300 defensive lineman and current Florida commit Jalen Wiggins.
Seminoles at the top for in-state RB
“The environment was everything I thought it would be,” Louis said. FSU’s competition is Miami and Ohio State. “High energy and good vibes. Coach Norvell & Coach Yac (David Johnson) are what continues to excite me. I see the hard work that they are putting in on a consistent bases and I like that. It just shows their hard work and dedication to being excellent is the standard.
“The relationship side they are on the top of the rest because we’ve been building for so long but Ohio State with Coach Lock & Miami with Coach Matt are still on top as well.”
Seminoles in a great spot for another 2025 target
Florida State is the currently On3 RPM leader for Colquitt (Ga.) Miller County 2025 safety JP Powell.
“The environment at FSU was amazing today,” Powell said. “Even with all the construction the crowd showed up and brought a lot of energy. What excites me about the opportunity to play at FSU is the development in the players that come thru at FSU. Norvell has done a great job and FSU has a great track record of that in the past as well.
“FSU definitely is definitely on my top list!”
Elite 2026 prospects chime in
Florida State is one of the programs setting the early pace for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep On300 safety Derrek Cooper, the No. 3 player in the country at his position and No. 25 prospect overall.
“It was amazing man!” Cooper said. “I got to meet most of the coaching staff and kinda start building relationships with them. The environment was surreal, it was great to be in and around. What continues to excite me is the way the fans interact with the famous FSU marching song and they got very loud. FSU has always been where I wanted to go but, other programs like Georgia and Miami are at the top as well. FSU stands out from other schools as they welcomed me with tons of people standing and clapping for me walking in the building.”
Winter Park (Fla.) On300 safety Ayden Pouncey is another 2026 prospect feeling Florida State early in his process.
“It was definitely a great environment,” Pouncey said. “It was good vibes from the coaches to the fans. I really loved it. What continues to excite me is Coach Norvell, his personality, he pushes the best out of everyone and he just bring that positive energy around.”
A top rising sophomore gives his thoughts
Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit 2027 linebacker Kaden Henderson has an early offer from the Seminoles.
“The environment at FSU is great,” Henderson said. “Just that brotherhood they have is something I’m going to implement in my day to day life. Also what’s exiting me most right now is just getting to know Coach Norvell and Coach Fuller on a personal level more than just coaches for a top school in the country.”
