Indiana’s Trent Howland another possible addition to already talented Ole Miss RB room
Earlier this week, it was confirmed by On3’s Steve Wiltfong Indiana running back Trent Howland was contacted by Ole Miss. Then ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported he would be officially visiting Monday. The Rebels landed New Mexico running back Jacory Merritt and are expected to eventually land Miami’s Henry Parrish, too. But, Lane Kiffin is quite keen on beefing up his running back room.
Literally and figuratively. Ole Miss extended an offer Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3, 240 pound Howland ran for 354 yards and two touchdowns a year ago, averaging close to five yards per carry for the Hoosiers. Wherever he goes, he will have two years of eligibility.

Trent Howland had a ton of success late in the 2023 season.
He ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries against Illinois November 11. Then, he bested this effort by running for 77 yards on 19 carries against Michigan State a week later. At Joliet West (Ill.), Howland was named Southwest Prairie Conference Most Valuable Player and ran for 1,401 on 178 carries (7.9 yards per carry) with 14 touchdowns.
Sources tell OMSpirit Ole Miss is looking to “revamp the entire room”. After losing Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State, the Rebels are certainly wanting to add some beef to its roster. Howland is a big-bodied running back who could serve the offense well in short yardage and in the red zone.
There is a ton of hype around this year’s team and the early CFP projections have Ole Miss on the short list. The odds for Kiffin’s group to make the now 12-team field currently sit at -122. The team has coined the 2024 season as “The Last Dance”. It’s conceivable Ole Miss could be favored in every game but one in the regular season.
