Texas Longhorns RPM in for top transfer portal target
The Texas Longhorns are all-in for the 2024 season, and that includes potentially adding a few defensive tackles from the NCAA Transfer Portal in the post-spring window.
UCLA defensive tackle Jay Toia checks all the boxes for what the Longhorns are looking for. The 6-foot-2, 315-pounder announced his intentions in enter the transfer portal on Thursday and officially appeared in the database later in the afternoon.
With the departure of T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy, the Longhorns sought to stock the cupboard alongside Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton, the main returners in the Texas defensive front.
Former Arizona DL Tia Savea has already enrolled in Austin for Spring ball. The addition of Toia would be another step toward the restock.

Originally a four-star prospect from Grace Brethren High School in Simi Valley, Calif., Toia flashed in his three seasons at UCLA. He originally committed and enrolled at USC as a part of its 2021 recruiting class. But his home was with the Bruins and he moved from Troy to Westwood ahead of his freshman campaign.
Toia played in 29 games, recording 66 total tackles, 38 solo, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble. In 2023, he had 28 tackles with 4.0 tackles for loss and one sack.
Toia is the brother of former Baylor and LSU defensive tackle Siaki Ika. He’s also the younger brother of Sione Toia, a defensive tackle at San Jose State who entered and exited the transfer portal during the winter window.
Per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Toia was the No. 175 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle.
