Alabama WR signee recaps A-Day visit, ready for next chapter

This past weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide played host to recruits in the 2025, 2026, and even 2027 classes. Kalen DeBoer‘s staff also welcomed multiple future members of the program from the 2024 class, including wide receiver signee Amari Jefferson.

Although Jefferson has been on campus a half-dozen times over the past year, this was somewhat of a different experience for him. He saw Nick Saban for the first time since his retirement, met Bryce Young, and had an up-close look at the DeBoer-led Bama team during Saturday’s spring game.

BamaOnLine caught up with Jefferson to recap his visit and look ahead to his future in Tuscaloosa.

“Great to see them out there, especially with the new staff,” Jefferson told BOL. “Offense was looking explosive and super exciting to play for. Looks like they’ve been putting in good work and I’m humbled to be able to go down in a month and start my journey.”

According to the official stats from A-Day that were provided by Alabama, the Tide’s receiving corps recorded 24 receptions for 302 yards, an average of 12.6 yards per catch. Transfer Germie Bernard was the standout with three catches for 122 yards, including a 52-yard reception.

“It was great to see,” Jefferson said of the offense. “The receivers got used a good bit last year, but just the explosive plays already in the spring game and the difference in the offense. Milroe, he looked really poised. You can definitely tell it’s his second go-around as a starter. So, it’s definitely exciting to see just being a receiver and knowing that’s what I have to look forward to.”

Over the past few months, Jefferson has been in contact with receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard and is focused on building a relationship with him.

The two got to speak with one another on the sidelines before the game, and Jefferson says he’s a fan of how Shephard operates as a coach.

“He continues to have great energy and passion for coaching receivers, and I’m excited to get down there and work with him,” Jefferson said of Shephard. “From what I’ve heard and the little I’ve seen, he’s very passionate. Loves his players a lot. He’s going to push us to be great on every rep.”

Shephard will be welcoming in the trio of Amari Jefferson, Rico Scott, and Ryan Williams on campus in a few weeks. Alabama’s 2024 wide receiver signees from the prep level have been talking with each other about this next chapter and what they can accomplish together.

“I think we’re all three very excited,” Jefferson said. “I think we’re all three big-time playmakers and going to be a big part of the offense moving forward. We’re all really excited to get there. I think we can really be the next big three of college football just with our skill sets and different things we bring to the table. I don’t think there’s anything we can’t do.”

Jefferson talks energy at Alabama, meeting with Nick Saban again

This was not Jefferson’s first time stepping foot on campus with DeBoer at the helm. The On300 wide receiver returned in late January for a visit, saying the following about his time with the new staff – HERE.

With yet another trip under his belt, Jefferson remains optimistic about the outlook of Alabama’s program.

“I just think there’s a lot of energy,” Jefferson said. “Young energy in the building. With the new faces, I think there’s a lot of excitement behind it. Passion for winning and also Alabama. So, definitely excited.”

While he did take note of the excitement about the future of the Tide, one of the highlights of Jefferson’s trip was seeing Saban again.

“It was cool because he was coming down the line shaking people’s hands. Once he realized it was me, he kind of popped up and gave me a hug,” Jefferson said. “He was asking me how I was doing and asking how the family is doing. Saying it was good to see me. So, that was definitely cool knowing that he still remembers our relationship and took time out of his day to talk with me a little bit.”

Saban proving that he’ll have a continued presence in T-Town is of great significance for Jefferson.

“Definitely it’s big because he’s the reason I chose Alabama in the first place,” Jefferson said. “I felt like him and I had a pretty special relationship just going through the recruiting process. It hurts knowing that he’s not going to be the coach, but I’m excited about Coach DeBoer and Coach Shep, and where the program is headed. I’m excited also to know that Coach Saban will still be around and have a voice.”

At this time, Jefferson and his teammates are 18-3 on the season. Prior to this past game, Jefferson was batting .453 with five home runs, 13 stolen bases, 34 RBIs, and 11 doubles. The dual-sport athlete also stated that he’s been staying in touch with Alabama’s baseball staff.

Jefferson is expected to arrive on campus either on May 26 or around that date, and he is ready to embark on this journey.

“Man, I’m super excited. I can’t wait,” Jefferson said. “I’ve got a month and a half left until I move in. I’m excited for the start of the journey and to get things rolling… try to bring a national championship back.”
