Elite 2026 safety Jireh Edwards adds Miami offer, now holds interest from 2 dozen programs

Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy 2026 safety Jireh Edwards landed a Miami offer recently after the Hurricanes stopped by St. Frances for an evaluation visit.

Edwards, a 6-foot-1, 194-pound defensive back, now holds two dozen offers to programs including Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan and USC, among others.

Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry extended Edwards the offer through St. Frances head coach Messay Hailemariam after being wowed by his size for a high school freshman, athleticism and playmaking ability.

“It was amazing,” Edwards said. “It was just such a blessing, and I was just so excited.”

Edwards said he immediately places Miami among his top schools along with programs like Ohio State and Notre Dame, although he still has three years left in his recruitment. He said he wants to commit to a program with a strong coaching staff he builds a close bond to, has a history of player development and somewhere he could envision himself playing for four years.

The Hurricanes stood out to Edwards thanks to their elite program history and championship-winning pedigree, and he said he wants to learn more about Miami soon. He’s hoping to take an unofficial visit to Coral Gables this summer but has not discussed the details of a trip with Miami’s staff.

He also took unofficial visits to Tennessee and Maryland this spring but said it would be difficult to name just one program that stands out this early. He still hopes to learn more about the programs recruiting him, although his status as an underclassman means his communication with coaching staffs will be generally limited.

CaneSport’s Take

Programs have flocked in and out of St. Frances this spring as the Academy, which can effectively be considered the IMG of the northeast, has had players land dozens of offers in 2023. Miami offered multiple St. Frances prospects during the evaluation period including four-star cornerbacks Blake Woodby and Jermichael Gillis and four-star linebacker Carlton Smith.

The Hurricanes seem prepared to pay St. Frances more attention with future recruiting classes, although Miami has made it clear it’s comfortable staying in Florida to recruit. Still, there’s no denying the talent at St. Frances.
