Miami 4-star RB commit Girard Pringle talks connection with Matt Merritt, third visit in 4 weeks
Tampa (Fla.) Armwood four-star running back Girard Pringle has been a frequent visitor to Miami’s campus since committing to the Hurricanes March 23.
The No. 107 overall prospect and No. 6 running back in the 2025 class has visited Coral Gables three times in the last four weeks, including the weekend trip he committed on the penultimate weekend of March. Pringle also attended Miami’s spring game this past weekend and said he wants to take advantage of the staff’s invitation visit whenever he chooses.
“This is my second home, so they let me know that I’m welcome whenever,” Pringle said. “It’s everything. It’s the relationship with the coaches… I’ve talked with them about football, and not just about football but about life.”
Pringle said his relationship with Merritt, Miami’s running backs coach, played a significant role in his commitment to the Hurricanes earlier this spring. The 5-foot-10.5, 185-pound running back began building a relationship with Merritt during his time as the running backs coach and associate head coach at USF and maintained his connection after Merritt made the move to Miami. He said he may not have viewed USF as one of his true frontrunners or a favorite to land him at the time, but he developed a strong enough connection with Merritt that he was more than ready to play for him at Miami.
“The bond with coach Merritt made me come to Miami,” Pringle said. “I’m very tight with coach (Matt) Merritt and coach (Mario) Cristobal. Every time I’ve come up here, they treat me like this is my home already.”
Pringle said he spent extensive time around Merritt during Miami’s spring game and liked “the efficiency” of Saturday’s public scrimmage. He said he also hung out with much of Miami’s coaching staff and met several coaches’ wives and families, which he said made the experience feel “very family-oriented.”
I’ve already gotten to sit in multiple position meetings, I’ve met multiple players, and they’re all cool,” Pringle said. “They treat me like family; like a teammate already.”
CaneSport’s Take
Pringle was a significant commit for Miami in March, and all signs indicate he’s remaining particularly tight with the Hurricanes’ staff. He’ll also take an official visit to Miami June 14 and appears will be difficult to pull away from Miami.
The Hurricanes are still looking at prospects like Byron Louis, Ousmane Kromah and Shekai Mills-Knight, among others, to add a second running back in the class.
