Safety Malik Esquerra talks about new offer from Nebraska
Nebraska has entered the picture for safety Malik Esquerra from Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker. The Huskers came by his school to see him in February. Last week, the Nebraska staff extended and offer Esquerra is now looking at a very full month of June trying to find a date to take a visit to Lincoln.
“Nebraska offered me over the phone,” Esquerra said. “They were here in January, but coach Hales called me and after that I spoke with coach McGuire and he offered me.”

One of the coaches recruiting Esquerra is Garret McGuire from Nebraska. He is the coach that offered him and Esquerra is aware of how young coach McGuire is, and he’s done some research on him since he joined the staff at Nebraska.
“He seemed like a cool guy over the phone. I’ve seen a couple of videos on him from YouTube. I really like his energy, and the fact that he is young will allow me to connect with him more.”
The month of June is full for Malike Esquerra, a visit to Nebraska may have to wait
Nebraska will get a visit from Esquerra. The question is, when? Esquerra has two visits planned in June already and he has family conflicts for the other two weekends. Taking a mid-week visit is still a possibility.
“I talked with coach McGuire about setting up a visit, but all of my weekends are booked in June,” Esquerra said. “So if I go on a visit to Nebraska it would have to be during the week or during the season.
“I have Vanderbilt from June 2nd to 4th and Texas Tech from 16th to 18th. My sister is having a wedding one of the weekends in June. The other weekend in June, my mom isn’t available to take a trip.”
Malik was a first-team, all-district selection last year. He finished his junior year with 68 tackles, four interceptions, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass broken up.
