Newsstand: Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman reveals player is currently away from the team

The NCAA spring transfer portal window will open on Tuesday, allowing undergraduate football players to potentially search for a new home. According to Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, one player has already been away from the team for multiple days.

Junior defensive lineman Tyson Ford has been absent from practice since at least Wednesday when the media had the chance to observe spring practice.

“He’s taking some personal time to figure out what he wants to do,” Freeman said.

The Irish are five players over the 85-man scholarship limit, so there will undoubtedly be some roster movement this month. Graduate student defensive back Clarence Lewis already entered the transfer portal this spring. College undergraduates with remaining athletic eligibility can pretty much enter the portal at any time.

Ford has three years of eligibility remaining.
