Lucky Charms: Notre Dame summer official visitor notes

Lucky Charms: Notre Dame summer official visitor notes

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade’s Marquis Gallegos, the nation’s No. 221 overall recruit and No. 19 safety per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, has locked in four June official visits, Blue & Gold was told this week. He’ll head to Michigan June 2, Notre Dame June 9, USC June 16 and Oregon June 23. It will be his third trip to South Bend, as he also visited last month and was on campus for the 2022 Blue-Gold Game.

The Irish have a safety commitment from Chandler (Ariz.) High’s Kennedy Urlacher, and Notre Dame may take up to three more in the 2024 class. Gallegos is a top option for the staff, and the other names to know currently are American Fork (Utah) High’s Davis Andrews, El Campo (Texas) High’s Oliver Miles, West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep’s Jaylen McClain, Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union’s Kingston Lopa and Cibolo (Texas) Samuel Clemens’ Paul Mencke Jr. We’ve already reported that Andrews and Mencke have scheduled summer official visits as well.

As far as where Notre Dame stands with Gallegos, there doesn’t seem to be any clear leader for him. It’s the four schools that he’s taking official visits to that are the programs at the top for him, and his official visits will be key.

*** All of the players who are currently committed to the Irish in the 2024 class are expected to use their Notre Dame official visit this June. We can confirm that two of the Irish’s recent commits will be on campus for the massive June 9 weekend. Urlacher and Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek EDGE Cole Mullins will be in South Bend. Both recruits have only been to campus once at this point.

*** Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden recruited in Georgia last week to see a few class of 2024 linebacker recruits, including five-star Sammy Brown from Jefferson (Ga.) High. Ranked as the nation’s No. 16 overall player and No. 1 linebacker per the On3 Industry Ranking, Brown is a prospect the Irish would love to add to their class. I’m told that Golden has been keeping in touch with Brown, but he’s not expected to take an official to Notre Dame, while he does plan to take trips to Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Tennessee and Oklahoma before making a commitment in July. The Irish are a total long shot for Brown at this point.

*** Golden and defensive line coach Al Washington were recruiting in Southern California Wednesday and extended a new scholarship offer to Westlake Village (Calif.) Thousand Oaks class of 2025 defensive lineman Hayden Lowe. Utah, Washington, Michigan and Pittsburgh are among the other schools that have offered the 6-3, 227-pounder.
