4-star DL Myron Charles growing close to Miami staff as summer approaches

4-star DL Myron Charles growing close to Miami staff as summer approaches

Port Charlotte (Fla.) four-star 2025 defensive lineman Myron Charles has long made clear his interest in potentially staying in-state for college, and Miami is continuing to battle to keep the top-100 prospect home.

Charles, the No. 77 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 6 defensive lineman, was back on Miami’s campus for the Hurricanes’ spring game Saturday after visiting all three programs and USC this spring, telling CaneSport Miami continues to be a significant contender. He recently told GatorsOnline Florida State leads and Florida isn’t far behind, and Miami is well in the mix too along with Texas. He currently has official visits planned with Miami, Florida and Florida State this summer.

“It was pretty nice,” Charles told CaneSport. “I got to reconnect with coaches, go through some team meetings and see how they run plays and stuff like that, got to learn some of their plays. It was fun to truly connect with the players and coaches.”

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle last visited Miami for the Hurricanes’ Jan. 27 junior day but hadn’t had an opportunity to watch a Miami offseason workout or practice until Saturday. Charles attended several Miami home games last fall as the Hurricanes jostled for position early, although the Canes have faces intensified recruiting efforts from Florida and Florida State this spring. He has kept in constant communication with most of Miami’s defensive staff and head coach Mario Cristobal, led by co-defensive line coaches Joe Salave’a and Jason Taylor.

Charles said he was particularly impressed by the physicality between Miami’s offensive and defensive lines and sophomore defensive lineman Rueben Bain and said Florida, Florida State, Miami and Texas impressed him most this spring. Charles continues to like where the three major Florida schools sit and has been vocal about his interest in potentially staying in state for college and believes his official visits will play a significant role in his decision, which he said could come later this summer.

Charles says he is finished visiting schools before his summer official visits, although several schools will likely pay him in-school visits during the upcoming contact period.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami is in for a dogfight for Charles, although getting him to campus for Saturday’s spring game and a June official visit bodes well for the Hurricanes’ chances. I’d have a hard time not imagining the Hurricanes as one of his finalists, although I currently like Florida State and Florida’s chances more than Miami’s.
