In-state DB sees a potential home at Florida: ‘It’s been going through my head’

The Gators are trending in a major way for Fleming Island (Fla.) defensive back Kaylib Singleton. That is according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, which boasts odds of 98.4 percent.

On Saturday, Florida had the opportunity to build on that momentum once again, as the in-state product visited for the Orange and Blue Game.

“It was good. I talked to all the coaches and saw a lot of stuff I liked while they were playing,” Singleton told Gators Online. “The DBs coach, I like coach (Will) Harris a lot. He’s putting those guys out there and they are doing good and getting better.

“I feel like at the practices, they do good; when it’s time to play, they do even better. I feel like it’s a good DB organization around him. I feel like they all make plays.”

Singleton visited the Gators in January and March as well, establishing a strong rapport with the former NFL staff member.

“I like how he personally wants to make me a better person not just on the field,” Singleton said of Harris. “We talk about a lot of stuff not football related, so I like that. I can be safe and talk about certain stuff around him.”

Singleton is soaring up big boards

To this point, just under 20 schools have offered Singleton. Most of them operate at the Power-Four level.

Five suitors, however, are pushing hardest for his commitment: Florida, Rutgers, Kentucky, Texas A&M and LSU. The Gators and Scarlet Knights are the lone programs with an official visit date, with UF getting the first shot on May 31-June 2.

“They’re one of the top schools I like,” Singleton said of Florida. “I just like them a lot, so we are going to see.”

Florida is making a strong case

Singleton doesn’t plan to make a decision until summertime. Obviously, recruiting is fluid and things can change weekly, but several visits will likely take first. You have to account for potential new offers too.

But after several recent experiences in Gainesville, Singleton admits he has put deep thought into a potential career with the Gators.

“It’s been going through my head,” said Singleton. “A lot of schools are on my mind a lot, but Florida is one of those top schools that’s been there a lot.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Singleton is the No. 47 athlete and No. 693 prospect overall.
