Auburn offers Mississippi running back Tray Kinkle
Auburn on Thursday added a new running back target to its board.
Tray Kinkle, who is from Holly Springs, Miss., received an offer from the Tigers.
“It felt great having another SEC school offer me a full scholarship,” he said. “It just motivates me to work harder for my senior season.”
Auburn joined several other schools on Kinkle’s offer list, including Ole Miss, Florida, Florida State and N.C. State. Auburn, Florida State and Florida all offered on Thursday.
The offer from the Tigers came during a conversation Kinkle had with Auburn offensive coordinator/running backs coach Derrick Nix.
“(Nix) sounds like a good coach and a great person,” Kinkle said. “I know they generate good backs and I’m pretty sure he’s in charge of that, so that speaks for itself.”
Kinkle plans summertime visit to Auburn
Kinkle has yet to meet Nix, but said, “I’ll meet him soon.”
He also has yet to visit Auburn, but plans to in the summer.
“I watch their football team, but I have to do my research on the academics,” he said. “(I’ll visit) sometime this summer.”
As for listing favorites or making a commitment, Kinkle plans to take his time with both. He’s currently running track and has reportedly run a 10.3-second 100-meter dash.
“Right now I gotta focus on school and track till that’s over,” he said.
As a junior, Kinkle rushed for 1,247 yards and 12 touchdowns on 150 carries. He also had 26 receptions for 452 yards and four scores.
Former 4-star DL commit Kalen Edwards locks in official visit to Auburn
Four-star defensive lineman Kalen Edwards de-committed from Auburn in March, but continues to have interest in the Tigers. So much so that he’s locked in an official visit.
Edwards, who is from Dyersburg, Tenn., announced Thursday that he will take an official visit to Auburn on May 31-June 2.
“Thank you to Coach (Hugh) Freeze and the rest of the staff,” Edwards wrote on X. “Looking forward to the OV.”
It will be Edwards’s first trip back to Auburn since his de-commitment.
Edwards initially committed to Auburn in November and appeared firm in his decision. However, then-Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett left to become the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach. Edwards reopened his recruitment weeks later.
The Tigers, led by new defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams, have worked to get back in on Edwards. It appears the efforts are paying off.
Auburn is one of three official visits Edwards has lined up this summer. He also will visit Louisville June 7-9 and Georgia June 21-23.
