2025 four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart talks summer official visits and favorites
The past several weeks on the recruiting trail have been very productive for Winona High School’s Tyler Lockhart. The 2025 linebacker and On3 four-star prospect has collected SEC offers from Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Alabama over that span and shows no signs of slowing down.
Of late, Lockhart has been able to check out a couple of those programs via unofficial visits. Lockhart is rated as the nation’s No. 18 linebacker and the state’s No. 6 prospect by On3 rankings.
“Lately I’ve been to Auburn and Alabama,” recalled Lockhart. “The trips to Alabama and Auburn were good and they both said they need me there. It’s been good with Alabama since they offered and they said I am wanted there.”
Mississippi State was Lockhart’s first SEC and since getting that offer last year, he has made several trips to campus. Lockhart was back in Starkville this past weekend to observe the Bulldogs in spring practice and noted of his upcoming trips the rest of April. Lockhart has also scheduled a pair of official visits so far for the month of June.
“Last weekend I went to Mississippi State and this weekend I’m going to Tennessee,” remarked Lockhart. “Then I am going back to State for their spring game. This summer I have two official visits set, too. The first weekend in June I am going to State and the second weekend in June I am going to Auburn.”
As it was last year, head coach Jeff Lebby and his new staff have made Lockhart feel like a priority. He noted of the message he receives constantly from Lebby and defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler.
“It’s been good with State and I pretty much talk to their whole staff all the time,” the 6-foot-4 and 195-pound Lockhart noted. “Coach Hutzler said he needs me there and that I’m one of their top guys. It’s good with Coach Lebby, too, and he tells me the same things and wants me there.
“Overall, I like the new staff. I like the energy they bring to the program and they’re good people.”
A couple of months ago, Lockhart mentioned that his college decision could take place early in the spring period. However, he backed off that timeframe and now has a new timeframe in mind for that decision.
“I will probably make my decision in August,” mentioned Lockhart. “There are a lot of things I have to look at. I want to look at the people there at the school and see how they treat me.”
Lockhart also has a short list of favorites in mind, as well. As it’s been for awhile now, he still has one program on top of that favorites’ list.
“Right now I would say there are a few standing out,” Lockhart added. “It’s State, Auburn, LSU and Alabama. And of those schools State is still on top.”
