Oklahoma wrestler Jared Hill plans to enters NCAA transfer portal

Oklahoma wrestler Jared Hill plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced on social media. The two-time NCAA qualifier will look elsewhere for next season.

Hill redshirted his first year on campus but started at 157 pounds the last two seasons. He made it to NCAAs in Tulsa and Kansas City, respectively.

But now Hill will look for a different singlet and he released a statement on his decision.

“I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal,” Hill wrote on Instagram. “These last couple (of) years (here) at OU have been a blast and a dream come true representing the crimson and cream. I’m thankful for all the coaches and teammates I have met that molded me into a man now. I thank (God) for everything and I know I will end up at the right institution for me!”

Over the course of two varsity seasons, Hill went 31-26, qualifying for NCAAs both years. He’s a projected 157 pounder in 2024-25, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up and if he happens to change weights.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
