Notes from the road: Intel on 6 priority Auburn targets

Notes from the road: Intel on 6 priority Auburn targets

Auburn Live hit the recruiting trail once again on Tuesday.

There are several top prospects in the Birmingham area in the state of Alabama. Even though we checked in with a few of these prospects two weeks ago, it was time to sweep back through.

Here is the good news, the bad news, and everything in between with six priority prospects.

LB, Bradley Shaw, Hoover (Ala.)

Shaw (6-0 218) is the No. 138 overall player, the No. 12 linebacker and the No. 8 player in Alabama. He holds a 4-star ranking.

At last check, Shaw was considering Florida as one of his top schools. A source with knowledge of his recruitment told Auburn Live that Florida, Georgia and Auburn were possibly the schools at the top.

As of right now, it seems that Auburn and Georgia still remain along with Notre Dame. Would Shaw leave the state and go as far as Notre Dame? Possibly. He does not yet have an official visit set to Auburn, but has one set to Notre Dame and Georgia.

We are told Shaw still sits fairly high on the Tigers’ linebacker board.

Shaw tells Auburn Live he will officially visit and plans to make the annual Big Cat Weekend event for the second year in a row.

OT, Jac’Qawn McRoy, Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville

McRoy (6-8 340) is the No. 179 overall player, the No. 14 offensive tackle, and the No. 11 player in Alabama. He holds a 4-star ranking.

Is it time to completely close the door on McRoy? Maybe. Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Oregon appear to be a few of the schools pursuing him the most.

While Auburn may not be completely out of it, it seems as though McRoy will land elsewhere. I have put in a prediction for McRoy to land with Oregon.

As far as in-state offensive linemen go, it seems the attention has shifted to Reese Baker, an unranked offensive tackle from Huntsville (Ala.) Madison Academy.

WR, Mario Craver, Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville

Craver (5-9 150) is the No. 266 overall player, the No. 43 wide receiver, and the No. 15 player in Alabama. He holds a 4-star ranking.

Craver told Auburn Live about two weeks ago that Florida was his leader. He said the same was still true on Tuesday.

Craver, however, would prefer that his Auburn official visit happen in the fall. If he can schedule it for the Iron Bowl, he absolutely will.

While Craver said the Gators have the edge, he also noted that Auburn, and receivers coach Marcus Davis is recruiting him the hardest.

LB, D’Angelo DJ Barber, Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville

Barber (6-0 221) is the No. 489 overall player, the No. 53 linebacker, and the No. 27 player in Alabama. He holds a 3-star ranking.

While Auburn has been trending for some time, a recent visit with Barber made it clear that Arkansas was a threat. The Hogs will get an official visit for now.

Auburn, though, appears to still be in the driver’s seat according to sources near Barber. I have an RPM pick for Barber to land with Auburn, and I still feel good about it. A decision could come before he takes his official visit to Arkansas in June.

DL, Jeremiah Beaman, Birmingham (Ala.) Parker

Beaman (6-3.5 250) is the No. 98 overall player, the No. 16 defensive lineman, and the No. 6 player in Alabama. He holds a 4-star ranking.

Beaman remains in the same boat publicly as the last time Auburn Live caught up with him. He says no school has pulled ahead and has several suitors. Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Texas and a few others are in the mix.

If today were signing day, my pick might be on Alabama for Beaman. Auburn is battling though. Beaman always cites his great relationship with defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett as a major plus for the Tigers.

RB, Kevin Riley, Northport (Ala.) Tuscaloosa County

Riley (6-0 192) is the No. 120 overall player in the country, the No. 9 running back, and the No. 7 player in the state of Alabama. He holds a 4-star ranking.

Riley is honest in saying that home town Alabama will be tough to beat. He is equally as genuine when saying that Auburn is squarely in the mix and very close to Auburn.

If Alabama decides to put on the full court press, and it could, Riley may end up with the Tide. He will first take an official visit to Auburn and give the Tigers, and his long-lasting relationship with running back coach Cadillac Williams, a chance.

It is too early to call this one just yet, but it will be a tough battle for Auburn.
