Fast rising 2025 EDGE Trent Sellers gets first look at Georgia

Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy 2025 edge Trent Sellers is trying to learn everything that he can about Georgia. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound edge defender made his first trip to Athens to visit the Bulldogs on Thursday.

Georgia’s facilities made an instant impression.

“It looked really nice, they showed us where the players hang out before practice,” Sellers said. “They’ve got two TVs, all the food you want and all of the things you need before practice. We out to the field and that was really nice, they have the indoor and the outdoor. It’s a top-notch facility.”

Sellers didn’t leave Athens with an offer. But he’s already gotten an invite back. He’s likely to return in June for a camp.

Sellers has seen his recruitment begin to pick up in recent weeks. 2023 was his first season of playing football. The 6-foot-6 edge added offers from Nebraska, UAB and Jacksonville State last week.

Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart coached Sellers’ older brother, Mark Barron, at Alabama. There is already a bit of a connection there.

Georgia’s staff have been showing some early interest and that interest persisted throughout his time in Athens.

“They were very interactive, even during practice they were checking in on me and stuff,” Sellers said.

Trent Sellers has had his eyes on Georgia

An offer from Georgia would be a big one for Sellers.

“It would mean a lot, it would be amazing,” Sellers said.

Despite growing up in Alabama territory, Sellers always cheered for Georgia and respected the Bulldogs for being the program that has never shied away from the Nick Saban-led Alabama teams.

“Growing up I’ve always liked the Georgia,” Sellers said. “Even when they were playing Alabama, everyone wanted Alabama to win, I was one of the only people hoping Georgia would win… When I started watching them, they always had a good defense. They’ve always been physical on the field. They didn’t bow down to Alabama like a lot of teams do.”

Late career path change leading to football success

Sellers was focused on basketball up until early in 2023. He was hoping to play college basketball in some capacity.

Things hadn’t materialized on the hardwood as of now. Sellers decided to give football a try. He’s fallen in love. The physicality and opportunity to make big plays is something that has been an intoxicating experience for Sellers.

“I went out there and I ended up following in love with the feeling that you get after getting a tackle for loss in a big game,” Sellers said. “You can hear everybody screaming when you’re coming back to the sidelines.”
