Latest intel on the recruitment of Five-Star Plus+ OT David Sanders

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle David Sanders has the full attention of dozens of top programs around the country as the nation’s most-sought after lineman.

The country’s No. 2 overall prospect is coming off an unofficial visit to Tennessee and will return to Knoxville again this weekend. The Vols will also receive an official visit this summer, along with Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama.

His trip to Tennessee is expected to be his final unofficial visit, and on Monday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong broke down where things stand in Sanders’ recruitment right now:

“When you talk to as many people as possible about this recruitment, Clemson is a program that’s always been at the top; Georgia is another program that’s always been at the top,” he said during On3’s Wiltfong Whiparound. “A recent visit to Ohio State definitely moved the needle for the Buckeyes in this recruitment. And Tennessee, he’s been visiting the Vols as long as he’s been visiting any program. Another big visit coming up this weekend, and we’ll have a great idea of where Tennessee stands going into the official visits.”

Ohio State making its push to catch up

The 6-foot-5.5, 275-pounder has been high on each of the southeastern schools for quite some time, as they’ve been fixtures in his recruitment for multiple years.

But the Buckeyes, led by offensive line coach Justin Frye, have made big strides in recent months culminating in his visit last weekend. On the trip, Ohio State’ the entire Buckeyes’s entire staff, commits and more were making the top uncommitted recruit in the nation feel superbly wanted in Columbus.

“There was a big, big effort by Ohio State to put themselves on notice for David Sanders and show Sanders and his family that playing football and getting an education at Ohio State is a real thing,” Parker said. “It should be taken seriously — and now it is. That recruitment is heating up, the Buckeyes are making things interesting in that race.”
