Five-Star Plus+ OT David Sanders has another strong visit at Tennessee

Tennessee had Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School Five-Star Plus+ offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. on campus over the weekend as the Vols battle Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and South Carolina for the On3 Industry Ranking’s top-ranked offensive tackle and No. 2 prospect overall.

This was the first of two visits this month the 6-foot-6, 275-pound Sanders will take to Knoxville as he is set to return this coming weekend as well.

Sanders gave the trips high marks, and his family who was with him did as well.

“We had a great time in Knoxville!” Sanders’ mother Samantha said. “It was a quick turnaround but overall we enjoyed ourselves. David hasn’t had an opportunity to see an actual practice, so it was important we saw the team in action prior to official visits.”

Josh Heupel, offensive line coach Glen Elarbee and the staff made the Sanders family feel very comfortable.

“The coaching staff was happy to answer any additional questions we may have had,” Samantha Sanders said. “After practice, there was a recruiting event at Coach Heupel’s home. All the coaches attended and we had a nice time interacting with them and other prospects.

“We’re looking forward to next weekend and attending the spring game.”

After the Vols spring game, Sanders will begin taking his official visits with South Carolina getting the first one during its spring game in two weekends. Clemson (May 31), Georgia (June 7), Tennessee (June 14), Alabama (June 18) and Ohio State (June 21) are locked in for the summer.

Sanders has been visiting Tennessee since he was in the eighth grade and likes the way Heupel is building his program.

As a junior, Sanders was awarded the Gatorade State Player of the Year Award after helping Providence Day School win another state championship.
