2025 Wisconsin TE Jackson Accuardi talks Michigan State visit/offer

Michigan State welcomed class of 2025 tight end Jackson Accuardi, of De Forest (WI) High School, for an unofficial visit on April 6. The visit came during the ninth Spartan practice of the spring.

Accuardi (6-7, 225) was offered by Spartan tight ends coach Brian Wozniak during the visit. He holds other offers from Missouri, Purdue, Indiana, Colorado, Louisville, Duke, and others. The relationship with Michigan State and Wozniak has been building for about a month. Wozniak was able to convince the tight end to come check out the practice.

The tight end was joined by his father during his first visit to East Lansing. Accuardi is already looking to schedule a return trip with his mother to Michigan State for an official visit, as they eye the weekend of June 7.

“We have been talking for about a month,” Accuardi said. “Obviously they are new there and they are still learning the area. He hit me up and we started talking. He wanted to get me up for a spring practice, and I was kind of hesitant at first just because it is getting late in the recruiting process for me.

“He was just like ‘Dude, just come up here. I think it will be well worth your time’. I came up and they offered. It was a good time.”

Michigan State took part in the first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday as Accuardi paid close attention to Wozniak and the tight ends. He was impressed by the usage of his position in offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren’s offense.

“That was fun to see, the offense and defense were going at it,” Accuardi said. “I think he was with literally every single one of his tight ends. Whether they were first or last on the depth chart, he is coaching them all up and making them better players. They interact and joke around with him, but when they go out to practice they are there to work and get better.

“Just how he uses the tight ends. Especially with Coach Lindgren and the way they use two or three tight ends at a time. They were telling me that even yesterday, they were only using one or two tight end sets, but they said if all their dudes were healthy, then they’d have two or three out there at a time. It is cool to see how much they value the tight end position.”

Once practice ended, Accuardi met with Wozniak in his office for a one-on-one conversation. The position coach likes the versatility of the tight end, as Accuardi takes pride in his blocking abilities, as well as his route running.

“I think he likes that I am a bigger dude, I have a bigger frame,” Accuardi said. “I have the ability to block. He said he likes that I can play on the line with my hand down, or I can split out and run routes and beat linebackers.

“I think just the versatility is what he likes because I have done both with my high school team. I think he thinks that it is a good fit for how they use their tight ends and they kind of run a similar style of offense at Michigan State as my high school. Just being able to take that over to college, especially in the weight program, getting bigger, faster, and stronger, and he thinks I will be able to develop into a good player.”

The Michigan State offer was extended by head coach Jonathan Smith. Accuardi and his father sat down with Smith in his office.

“Coach Smith extended the offer during my meeting with him,” Accuardi said. “Coach Woz was waiting right outside the door, obviously he knew it was happening too. Coach Smith offered me but it was from both of them I would say.

“I mean, I love Coach Smith just from my one interaction with him. That dude will sit down and talk football and he is an awesome coach, but you can really talk to him about anything. Whether it is football or not, he is open to talk about anything. He was wondering what I wanted to see, what I want to do, and what I thought. Then he explained how they would use me and that is when he let me know I had an offer to come play there and be a Spartan.”

Accuardi tells SpartanMag.com his father enjoyed the trip and his time with the Michigan State staff. Offensive director of player personnel Sean Levy helped chaperone the visit.

“He loved it,” Accuardi said. “He loved meeting with all the coaches. From 8:30am when we got there, we were meeting all the coaches, pretty much everyone in the building. It started in the parking lot, we met the offensive line coach. Throughout the day we were just meeting everybody. Coach Levy was with us most of the day, so he got to interact with my dad and I so that was cool.”

The tight end was also impressed by the new Tom Izzo Football Building and the Michigan State campus. Accuardi was able to tour the academic side of the program as well while on campus.

“It is awesome to see the new Tom Izzo Building,” Accuardi said. “I mean, they have that new weight room up there with all the bells and whistles. The facilities are beautiful. The grass practice field, the turf practice field, the indoor, they have everything. The campus is huge. They have the river running through which is nice.

We got to go to the business building, which is probably what I would major in, so it was cool to see that they have a brand new business building. I think that they have the best of both worlds when it comes to academics and football.”

Accuardi will return to Michigan State in June for an official visit. He hopes to see more of the day to day life on campus and spend more time with the current roster during the official is it.

“We went on the short campus tour, but it would be nice to see more of the campus and the dorms,” Accuardi said. “Also just spending time with the guys on the team, the coaches more. Interacting with them just to see how I would fit in with them for the next three to five years.”
