Emerging 2025 WR Jacob Washington talks Michigan offer, multi-day visit

Emerging 2025 WR Jacob Washington talks Michigan offer, multi-day visit

Michigan is in desperate need of a big-bodied wide receiver this cycle.

The Wolverines have been carefully evaluating three-star 2025 New Orleans (La.) Archbishop Shaw prospect Jacob Washington and hosted him for an unofficial visit this past week.

“What really stood out to me were the people,” Washington said. “Everyone I communicated with and interacted with while I was still on the trip was extremely welcoming and treated me like I was already on the team. They made this visit feel like it was unlike any other visit I’ve ever been on.”

At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Washington fits the mold of a true outside receiver with size. So it’s no surprise Michigan extended an offer before he left Ann Arbor.

“It was breathtaking,” Washington said. “It was an unreal moment, especially with the season Michigan had, winning the national championship and the weight that offer carries. It meant a lot to me and my family.”

Michigan underwent plenty of change this offseason and now has a new head coach in Sherrone Moore. Washington was on campus for two days and had plenty of time to interact with Moore personally.

“He’s a great guy,” Washington said. “We had a pretty good conversation. He stepped up as the head coach last year. It’s been great building a relationship with him. I was impressed with how he stepped in the role and excelled in the role last season. He adjusted on the fly.”

Washington also met with Michigan wide receivers coach and fellow Louisiana native Ron Bellamy, who also attended Archbishop Shaw.

“Every conversation I had with Coach Bellamy was a great one,” Washington said. “We attended the same high school and played under the same head coach. We already had that connection. Coach Bellamy is a phenomenal coach and person as well. I liked how he approached coaching. He was always involved with his players at practice. He told me something that stuck with me. He said, ‘I coach them hard but love them harder.’ That stood out to me.”

Aside from meeting with the staff, Washington said another highlight of the visit was taking in a Michigan practice.

“The offense is definitely a powerhouse,” Washington said. “Everything the team does from the wide receivers to the running backs to the tight ends to the quarterbacks to the offensive line moves in one smooth wheel. It was great to see every aspect of practice. It was super competitive. The energy surrounding practice was second to none. They practiced with a purpose. It was fun to watch.

“I can definitely see myself fitting into Michigan’s offense. They put up huge points every week. A lot of the routes and the concepts are downfield. I like to consider myself a deep threat that can take the top off a defense. I can see myself catching touchdowns week-by-week in The Big House.”

So where does Michigan stand coming out of the visit?

“Michigan has always been a school that has been high on my list, watching them on TV in the Big Ten,” Washington said. “I would say they are high on my list. I’ll definitely be back on campus in the summer.”

Along with Michigan, Washington holds offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Miami, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, UCF and others.

Washington is ranked as the No. 59 wide receiver and No. 380 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
