Top West Virginia 2024 prospect Robby Martin puts Miami in top 8
Huntington (W.V.) 2024 three-star offensive lineman Robby Martin, the No. 1 prospect in West Virginia, included Miami in his top eight schools as the Hurricanes continue to recruit the No. 462 overall prospect in the class.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman included the Hurricanes in his top eight along with Tennessee, Penn State, West Virginia, Illinois, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Maryland. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have been communicating with Martin at least every other day over the last several months.
He did not visit Miami this spring. The Hurricanes are recruiting Martin at “either guard or center.”
“They’re showing a lot of interest,” Martin said. “They text me and my (high school) coach very often. We have a group chat with them. They’re showing they really want me.”
Martin said they began discussing the possibility of a Miami official visit several months ago, and the Hurricanes have made a consistent effort to stay on his radar.
Martin has official visits set to West Virginia, Penn State and North Carolina State and hopes to take an official visit to Coral Gables, although nothing has been scheduled. He said he plans to take five official visits.
“I hope I get (an official visit) with them,” Martin said. “They will let me know though. …They said they’re going to talk and see what guys they’re going to have down there. That’s what coach Mirabal told me.”
Martin has played offensive tackle and center as a high school prospect and earned more than two dozen offers. He visited West Virginia, North Carolina State, Penn State, Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech this spring.
“I like that (Miami) is far from me, but they’re recruiting me hard, and it’s a really good program,” Martin said. “They’re saying that they can develop me really well, and they have a few great linemen in the class of 2023. And I know (Cristobal) has developed some great offensive linemen. I want a school that’s going to recruit me hard, shows love and takes care of me.”
Martin said he plans to commit sometime in June or possibly July.
CaneSport’s Take
The ball is in Miami’s court whether or not they want Martin to take an official visit to Coral Gables.
It feels like Miami is waiting to see how its list of summer official visitors and summer schedule shakes out before bringing Martin to campus, but he could be a prospect to quietly keep an eye on.
