Five Takeaways: Joseph Jonah-Ajonye conversation
The Woodlands, Texas – On3 Industry Ranking 4-star defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye has risen to be one of the top 2024 prospects in Texas. And he will keep rising.
The 6-foot-3.5, near 260-pound versatile defensive lineman will make an unofficial visit to Georgia on May 20-21 with Oak Ridge teammate and 4-star linebacker Justin Williams.
Inside Texas had the opportunity to spend a few minutes this morning with the prospect that projects as a 3-tech and 4i at the next level, and long term.
Five Takeaways
Despite a recent visit to Oregon, Joseph-Ajonye sees the SEC as the conference he will play in. He believes the SEC is the best competition he can go against to help him get to the ultimate goal – the NFL.
The Georgia visit next weekend will be huge in his recruitment. Georgia is the “dream school.” He has since cooled on a Georgia offer being a deciding factor in his recruitment. With that said, the Georgia visit next weekend will shape the remainder of the recruitment. The visit to Athens will be a first conversation with Kirby Smart. Being in the recruiting process for a couple of months now, he intends to go through the visit process prior to deciding before his senior season. Oklahoma’s vision for football and life after football through conversations with Todd Bates and Brent Venables have had the Sooners trending prior to the Georgia, and June visits. Oklahoma and Georgia will begin June as the favorites over Texas Tech.
His mom prefers close to home. Jonah-Ajonye says his mom prefers Texas A&M, mainly because she has been there. She likes the proximity to home. His mom has not been on campus in Austin before.
One of Jonah-Ajonye’s favorite players is former Oak Ridge and Texas linebacker Joseph Ossai. His mom knows of Ossai and family, and that her son is fond of him. He said he likes Texas, and likes the Longhorn defense. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, and assistants Bo Davis and Jeff Banks have all made contact with Jonah-Ajonye during the process. He would like to keep relationship building with the Texas staff.
Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Georgia and Texas Tech want him to play both 4i and 3-tech. He is telling schools he wants to begin his career outside, but does want to play both. He ideally wants to play outside on first and second down, and move inside on third downs.

Jonah-Ajonye has June official visits set to Texas Tech June 9-11 and Oklahoma June 16-18. IT believes Georgia will receive one. And Texas A&M and Texas could also receive visits. Florida State is the dark horse for a June OV.
Georgia, Texas and Florida State have all inquired about a June 23-25 official visit.
