WR target says Gators 5-star QB commit DJ Lagway is ‘top notch’

PINSON, ALABAMA — What does 4-star receiver Mario Craver of Clay-Chalkville (Ala.) think of 5-star Gators quarterback commit DJ Lagway?

“He’s top notch, I ain’t gonna lie,” Craver said Tuesday. 

Craver has some experience playing with Lagway as the two have previously been 7-on-7 teammates. Lagway, a standout at Willis (Texas), committed to Florida in December. Craver currently has the Gators in front above Auburn and Ole Miss.

With Lagway, a few things stand out, according to Craver.

“His arm strength and the way he can throw the ball on the run,” Craver said. “I think when he gets out of the pocket and can find me, it would be a big play every time. To be honest, there are no other ’24 quarterbacks I’ve seen compete better than him.”

DJ Lagway is a unique talent according to Craver

From Craver’s point of few, Lagway’s strengths don’t stop with his talent. He said he’s also impressed by the touted prospect’s leadership.

“He definitely has that. I can tell by the way he carries himself and the way he understand the game,” Craver said. “I know his dad is preparing him for this — for the next level”

Craver plans to officially visit Florida in June and is aiming for a summer commitment decision. He’s the No. 43 receiver in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

When looking at schools, Craver has paid special attention to the quarterback position. Namely, who is committed to the major programs involved in his recruitment. With the Gators having Lagway in the boat, “it definitely helps,” he told Gators Online.

“I mean the one thing you don’t want to have is a QB problem in college,” Craver said. “That’s really going to mold my decision.”
