Under Armour Columbus Camp: Recruiting intel
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Under Armour Next+ is in Ohio this weekend. Many of the best in Ohio turned out to compete. Stars from surrounding states, like Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin were in attendance as well.
Top prospects like Mylan Graham (Ohio State), Jordan Marshall (Michigan), Garrett Stover (Ohio State), Deontae Armstrong (Ohio State), Devontae Armstrong (Ohio State) and Ben Roebuck (Michigan) came into the event committed. There was still plenty of uncommitted talent on hand and On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons gives the latest recruiting intel.
4-star CB Aaron Scott, Jr.
The buzz: A decision is expected before the 2023 season begins for Aaron Scott, Jr. He is still lining up his official visits, but as he starts those in the coming weeks, all look to be chasing Ohio State. It is an in-state school that he is very comfortable at. Ryan Day, Tim Walton and Perry Eliano are all involved in his recruitment. The lead for the Buckeyes looks to be fairly substantial based on what I am hearing. Michigan has been viewed as Ohio State’s top competitor for some time, but after his first visit to Oregon, the Ducks have entered this race. There is more buzz around Oregon and they are expected to get an official visit. Ohio State is in the prime spot. Someone will have to catch, then pass the in-state school to land Scott when he makes his decision.
4-star EDGE Brian Robinson
The buzz: There has been rumblings at different times that Brian Robinson was close to committing. He still has not locked in a timeline to commit to a school, but all signs point to him getting closer. Robinson will take an official visit to Michigan to start June (2-4) and he has tripped to Ann Arbor over 10 times. The Wolverines are, and have been, viewed as the favorite. He is very familiar with the environment, he is fond of the education Michigan offers and the coaches have done an excellent job building trust with the Robinson family. Penn State is a contender too. He will be back in Happy Valley on June 16-18. Kentucky will receive an official visit on June 9-11. Pittsburgh and Tennessee are schools Robinson is still considering for official visits as well.
4-star TE Nick Marsh
The buzz: Nick Marsh was at one time committed to Michigan State and the Spartans could get the four-star wide receiver back. Marsh will take his official visits in June, then announce his commitment on July 7. Michigan State is set to receive the final official visit on June 23-25. There is still some confidence in East Lansing that they can get Marsh back in this class. Penn State looks to be right in the thick of this too. He was in Happy Valley last month and will take an official visit June 9-11. The two Big Ten programs are two favorites. He has locked in official visits to Kansas (June 14-16) and Auburn (June 16-18). Oregon is a fifth school Marsh is working to schedule and official visit with.
4-star CB Terhyon Nichols
The buzz: Official visits to Pittsburgh, Michigan and Penn State are locked in for three weekends in a row starting June 9 for Terhyon Nichols. Rutgers and Wisconsin are two more schools Nichols has his eye on, but the buzz is around the Wolverines and Nittany Lions. This could be a battle between two Big Ten powers that comes down to official visits. There is no decision timeline, but a summer decision is likely. Nichols has visited Ann Arbor and Happy Valley once.
4-star ATH Koy Beasley
The buzz: Koy Beasley is in Ohio, but USC has to be viewed as a threat in his recruitment. He took an unofficial visit to L.A. last month during his spring break and he is eyeing a return visit for an official visit. Distance could factor in, but if Beasley gets back to USC, keep an eye on the Trojans. Talking to a couple of sources, Wisconsin was a school that came up consistently. Luke Fickell and his staff was recruiting Beasley early while still at Cincinnati. That move was smooth for Beasey and the staff that is now at Wisconsin. The Badgers could have a slight edge, but there are still multiple schools in this race. Outside of USC and Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Rutgers are still being considered.
4-star LB Jeremiah Beasley
The buzz: Jeremiah Beasley almost committed earlier this year. He had a date in mind, but he decided to push it back to June. If the linebacker in Michigan would have committed a couple of months ago, all signs pointed to Michigan State. Things have shifted since. Michigan now has the momentum for Beasley. He has official visits lined up to Illinois (June 9-11) and Missouri (June 23-25), but both the Illini and the Tigers have significant ground to make up to become true contenders. The Spartans have faded, the Wolverines have surged, and the program in Ann Arbor is the one all are chasing for Beasley.
2025 5-star QB Bryce Underwood
The buzz: Bryce Underwood drew a lot of attention Sunday. The No. 1 prospect in the 2025 On300 left the camp to take his second visit to Ohio State. Ryan Day and Tony Alford had kids in attendance, so Underwood threw in front of two Buckeye coaches on Sunday. Ohio State is in the mix, but talking with a couple of sources, Michigan could be in a good spot. It is still early, but Kirk Campbell has come in and bonded with the five-star quarterback right away. LSU and Penn State are two other schools to watch as well. He is expected back in Ann Arbor this summer and he is working on other summer visits.
2025 4-star TE Luka Gilbert
The buzz: The early favorite to land tight end Luka Gilbert is Ohio State. Gilbert and Keenan Bailey have quickly hit it off. Gilbert’s mom went to Iowa, and was part of the rowing team, so the Hawkeyes are on his radar too. He does not have an offer yet. Ohio State offered early, they have gotten him on campus and the Buckeyes are trending early. Michigan is another school that has offered and Gilbert hopes to visit Ann Arbor for the first time this summer.
Quick hits
2025 quarterback Ryan Montgomery visited over half a dozen schools this spring. He said schools like Clemson, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State have done a good job recruiting him early. Montgomery is in the process of figuring out summer, then fall visits before making a decision the first half of next year. Penn State is trending for Ethan Grunkemeyer. He has visited Happy Valley before and he will return on May 12. Clemson is a school to watch too, but he wants to make a decision sooner than later. Georgia commitment NiTareon Tuggle is planning to take official visits, but he will be hard to flip from the Bulldogs. Colorado and Penn State are two schools he is planning to visit in June outside of Georgia. Tucker Kattus‘ father played at Michigan and his brother is playing tight end at Kentucky, but Arkansas is a school that has made an early impression on him. His options are still wide open. Pittsburgh (June 2-4), Kentucky (June 9-11) and Washington (June 16-18) have emerged as favorites for Dominic Kirks. The official visits are set and he could decide after those. Cincinnati and Rutgers are high on his radar too. Colorado quarterback commitment Danny O’Neal is strong with coach Prime, but he has not completely ruled out other visits. Arizona State and Michigan State have been reaching out. Jalen Todd has official visits to Kansas (June 9-11) and Iowa (June 23-25). Auburn and Florida are two more schools he is considering for official visits in June. Penn State is another school high on his list. Iowa offered Todd on his visit earlier this spring and the Hawkeyes are trending heading into official visits. Bo Jackson has an early offer from Ohio State and the Buckeyes are the leader. He grew up a fan of the in-state program and the 2025 four-star running back has already visited Columbus. Khalief Canty Jr. is on track to be a top offensive lineman in the 2026 class. The freshman in Detroit likes Michigan and Michigan State, two in-state schools, early, but Tennessee really stands out to him. He has already visited Knoxville twice and he thinks highly of Glen Elarbee. It is early, but it looks like the Vols will be in this one for a while. Canty already has 10 offers. Tight end Jack Sammarco has locked in an official visit with West Virginia for June 9. He said the Mountaineers are his leader heading into the summer. After adding offers from Ball State, Marshall, USC and West Virginia, 2025 EDGE Damien Shanklin is up a dozen offers. It is early and Shanklin has not visited too many schools, but he has visited Iowa once and Purdue close to half a dozen times. The Hawkeyes and Boilermakers stand out early.Former Stanford commit Jamir Benjamin is eyeing official visits to Northwestern and Pittsburgh in June. It sounds like the Wildcats have an edge.
