Talking Gators with defensive tackle D’antre Robinson

Talking Gators with defensive tackle D’antre Robinson

Orlando, Fla. – D’antre Robinson of Orlando Jones is one of the top targets on the defensive line board for the Florida Gators in the 2024 class.

Robinson, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound On3 Industry Ranking 4-star, has June official visits scheduled to Florida and Texas. Right now, the Gators and Longhorns are the top two schools for the athletic defensive tackle prospect.

“Yes sir, they are recruiting me the hardest,” Robinson told On3. “Them, and Colorado. They are recruiting me super hard. They are showing me a lot of love. FaceTime all the time. And I know if I go there I can play early. I wouldn’t have to wait.”

Florida defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and defensive line coach Sean Spencer visited Jones High on Thursday. Texas assistants Tashard Choice and Bo Davis are scheduled to be there this coming week.

Thursday, Robinson chatted with On3 to give the latest on his recruitment. That included his thoughts on the Gators.

Robinson on Florida

He’s high on Spencer: “I love Coach Chaos. I like the way he wants to use me in the defensive scheme. And he feels like I can go to the NFL so that’s one of the biggest things. I click with him. He’s pretty cool. He’s a funny guy and he can be serious.”

Florida is his childhood favorite: “That’s my dream school, first of all. That’s one of the biggest things. They’re recruiting me hard. I know if I can go there I can play. And I’m not too far from home — and I’m not too close. That was my one dream school. Growing up, it was split sides of Florida and Florida State and my side was Florida so I’ve always been a Florida fan since I was little.”

He has pictured himself playing for Florida a lot: “All my life. I used to play receiver. I always thought about me playing at Florida.”

Robinson says he’s treated like a 5-star in Gainesville and adds this: “It’s always a good environment. From the coaches to the players to (Assistant AD of Recruiting Strategy) Katie (Turner), they always have that.”

A fall decision is possible: “Probably middle of the season if it works perfectly.

The competition

Robinson mentioned several programs Thursday. The ones to watch are Florida, Texas, Colorado, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State. The Buckeyes offered Thursday. Florida (June 2-4) and Texas (June 16-18) are scheduled June official visits. LSU, Ohio State and possibly Georgia also are likely to receive official visits in June.

A lot of Robinson’s family is in Florida, but he does have a sister living in the Dallas area. For the Longhorns, that’s a good thing it seems. Also, Texas having multiple Orlando products on the roster — 2023 5-star running back Cedric Baxter among them — seems to be a big deal to Robinson.

Robinson on Bo Davis: “Coach Bo Davis coached at the highest level in football, so that right there shows you how good of a coach he can be. What he can do to develop me.”

Robinson on area recruiter Tashard Choice: “Coach Choice is always good. He knows his stuff. He’s going to develop you, and work his hardest to make sure you are the best player on and off the field.”

NOTE: Robinson is the No. 34 defensive lineman in the country.
