5-star DL David Stone, after Saturday Gators visit, praises Billy Napier & Co.

5-star DL David Stone, after Saturday Gators visit, praises Billy Napier & Co.

David Stone’s unofficial visit to Florida on Saturday was an eye-opener, the 5-star defensive lineman from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy said.

“It was great,” Stone told Gators Online. “I had an amazing time with the staff and the change from last spring to now is very evident.”

Stone is one of the truly elite defensive prospects in the country and is extremely high on the boards of many big-name programs. For good reason.

Stone, listed at 6-foot-4 and 278 pounds, is the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 10 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oklahoma leads big for Stone, an Oklahoma City native, in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. But there is a feeling among some he may be more open than that 80.8 percent projection rate to the Sooners would lead one to believe.

David Stone has made multiple visits to Gainesville

Saturday was his fourth known visit to Florida, with the most recent having been in March.

“I spoke with Coach (Billy) Napier, Coach Chaos (defensive line coach Sean Spencer), and (defensive coordinator Austin) Armstrong a lot,” Stone said. “And it was great — everyone talked a lot about my versatility as a player and Coach Chaos really went into depth about that.”

Napier’s approach Saturday seems to have impressed Stone.

“Coach Napier was talking to me a lot about my upbringing and who/what made me the way I am,” Stone said. “Our conversation was probably one of the best I’ve had with any head coach in awhile. He’s such a great guy. If he didn’t have that father-daughter dance to go to we could’ve talked all day. I told him I gotta see those videos after.”

Will the Gators get an official visit? That’s to be determined.

But …

“Man, overall I really enjoyed my time,” Stone told Gators Online. “And I’ll be coming back soon.”
