Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State hosting new offer on OV

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State offers. We will also discuss other recruiting news, social media and more.

New Offer – 2024 DB

Michigan State and cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado extended an offer to class of 2024 defensive back Lloyd Irvin of Upper Marlboro (MD) Charles Herbert Flowers School, on May 4. Irvin is not yet ranked by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, but he holds offers from Michigan, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and more.

Irvin tells SpartanMag.com he is already setting up an official visit to Michigan State for early June. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound defensive back visited Wisconsin, Maryland, Marshall, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Virginia Tech earlier this spring.

Jason’s take:

Michigan State has a handful of defensive backs coming in for official visits, kicking off the month with four-star CB commit Jaylen Thompson, four-star CB Mario Buford and three-star ATH Justin Denson the first weekend. The following weekend (June 9), the Spartans will host three-star Syair Torrence and unranked Florida safety Camren Campbell. The Spartans will push for more official visits, as they can afford to pick and choose who to pair next to Thompson in the 2024 class.

New Offer – 2025 four-star DB

Michigan State also offered class of 2025 four-star DB Trey McNutt, of Shaker Heights (OH), earlier this week. The Spartans joined Ohio State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, and more in offering the 6-foot, 180-pounder.

McNutt is ranked a four-star, the No. 173 overall recruit, the No. 12 athlete, and the No. 3 recruit in Ohio by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Jason’s Take:

Michigan State joined the midwest heavyweights in offering McNutt, who projects as a top defensive back in the region for the 2025 class. The Spartans will need to get McNutt on campus for a visit to increase their odds in landing the four-star.

Desmond Straughton of Roseville (MI) is a safety prospect to watch in the 2025 class who the Spartans are in good standing with early.
