On300 CB Terhyon Nichols talks official visit plans, Michigan interest, Steve Clinkscale

As first reported by The Wolverine on Thursday, Michigan is set to host 2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Withrow University four-star cornerback Terhyon Nichols for an official visit on June 23rd. Nichols has scheduled three for next month with Pitt (June 2nd) and Penn State (June 16th) proceeding the Big Ten Champions.

The return trip back follows the first-ever tour of Ann Arbor made by Nichols this past March, which was also the same month in which the junior was formally offered by Michigan.

“That visit was good,” Nichols said. “I got to see how the coaches coach and how the players practice. I also got to see the environment of the practice and the facilities. They were really nice. The weight room was really nice too. I didn’t get the chance to see the campus side of things but the football facilities were amazing.”

Displaying the versatility to play any position in the secondary, Nichols was impressed with the performance of Michigan’s defensive backs in practice, including All-American corner Will Johnson and the early enrollees.

“They’re doing great so far,” Nichols said. “They’re competing hard just like every other college player. They’re working to obtain that goal which is, most likely, to make it to the NFL. I believe that’s possible for them.”

Area recruiter and co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale pulled the trigger on offering Nichols, along with two of his Withrow teammates in 2026 wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. and 2025 wide receiver Quintin Simmons. Clinkscale recently stopped by the school during the spring evaluation period.

The relationship between Nichols and Clinkscale has risen exponentially since March because of the latter’s honestly whenever they communicate.

“I really like Coach Clink,” Nichols said. “He’s real and transparent. He keeps it 100 percent real with me every time that we talk. I haven’t had a bad encounter with him yet. He sees me as a player who could come in, earn my spot and compete.”

While Nichols did get the chance to meet head coach Jim Harbaugh on his first visit, sitting down with him individually on the official visit and go in-depth on Michigan and Harbaugh’s coaching past will be of the upmost importance.

“I met Coach Harbaugh for a little bit before practice,” Nichols said. “I haven’t gotten to know him as a coach yet but hopefully I get to be in contact with him more and build that relationship as well.”

Nichols is eyeing Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Kentucky and others as potential teams in-line to also receive an official visit. No commitment date has been set either, but once the officials get underway, Nichols will be actively searching for key factors at each school that’ll play into his decision.

“Really, the academics,” Nichols said. “I just have to really feel everything. Right now, during these official visits and during my recruitment process, I want to feel everything out. But I’m looking for academics, brotherhood, family environment, culture and the town. I don’t want to be told about it. I actually want to go there and see what it’s about.”

At 5-foot-10 and 166-pounds, Nichols is ranked as the No. 187 overall prospect in the country, No. 24 cornerback nationally and No. 7 junior in the state of Ohio, according to On3. Michigan currently leads for Nichols, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), at 29 percent
