Mike Norvell shares first glimpse at freshman QB Brock Glenn’s skillset
Florida State is happy to welcome back Jordan Travis in 2023 to quarterback the offense. However, head coach Mike Norvell is still looking at the future of the position. One of the key young quarterbacks for Florida State is freshman Brock Glenn.
Now, Norvell provided a glimpse at Glenn’s skillset following the spring game.
“Yeah, it was good and like all first-time quarterbacks, it was live today,” Mike Norvell said. “It was a game for him. You got to see his elusiveness, his athleticism. I mean, all things got put on display today and he is, the maturity that he brings to the field for still being a high school senior, and it was impressive.”
Brock Glenn was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the 463rd overall player in the class.
“And he made some really good throws. Put the ball in a good spot, made some throws that he’s gonna have to learn from, and obviously trusting progressions and other decisions. But all that’s going to be expected in the first scrimmage,” Norvell said.
“But for him to come out and operate the way he did, very intelligent and the composure that he brought to the field was something that I was impressed with.”
Redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker was Travis’ backup last season and is expected to be again in 2023. However, redshirt freshman Dylan McNamara and AJ Duffy, along with Brock Glenn are all in the mix.
Heading into the summer, Mike Norvell provided his thoughts on the backup quarterback competition.
“Some was decision-making. There’s a couple of plays where guys really tried to do almost too much in the moment; sometimes, the best play is an incompletion. And there’s all different things that will show up in spring ball: a guy has a mistake or doesn’t win or whatever might show up — just being able to show the reactionary process of what you’re going to do and your ownership of the downs [and] the situation,” Norvell said.
“Then there’s times where when it’s there, you gotta stick, step, throw, and put the ball where it needs to be. And that was done.”
Jordan Travis loves watching the quarterbacks compete
During spring practice, Jordan Travis was impressed with how all the other quarterbacks have been competing.
“I’ve always loved watching those guys grow every single day. I get so much joy out of it — competing with them every single day and being able to walk off the field knowing that they’re my brothers,” Travis said.
“But, it’s really special seeing those guys improve every day, not just on the football field but in life and seeing them take that next step, which is important.”
