Auburn, new assistant Corey Williams offers Class of 2023 PF Mitchell Holmes

Auburn, new assistant Corey Williams offers Class of 2023 PF Mitchell Holmes

Auburn basketball on Thursday extended an offer to Class of 2023 power forward Mitchell Holmes.

Holmes, who is from Oak Ridge in Arlington, Texas, announced the offer on Twitter. He learned of the news during a phone conversation with new Auburn assistant Corey Williams.

“After a great conversation with Coach Williams, I am blessed to receive an offer to Auburn University,” Holmes wrote.

He would be a late addition to Auburn’s 2023 class. The Tigers in November signed five-star point guard Aden Holloway. AU also has added transfer combo guard Denver Jones and transfer forward Chaney Johnson, but Holloway remains the only high school addition this offseason.

Holmes would make two.

Auburn looking to add a big to 2023-24 roster

Auburn would like to add another big man to its 2023-24 roster.

Holmes, who is listed at 6-foot-8 and 175 pounds, is certainly an option.

Bruce Pearl scouted Holmes in April and apparently liked what he saw. Holmes is a versatile big who could, at the least, provide depth for the Tigers next season. Williams, the Tigers’ new assistant, took over the recruitment of Holmes and delivered the news to him on Thursday.

Holmes is ranked the No. 175 overall recruit, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 35 power forward in the country.

He claims offers from Stanford, Eastern Michigan, Texas State and New Mexico State, among others.

5-star center Flory Bidunga talks recruitment

From On3’s Joe Tipton:

Five-star center Flory Bidunga is the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound prospect at Kokomo (Ind.) High updated his recruitment over the weekend at Adidas 3SSB Chapter 2. Bidunga has been on several college visits, including unofficial trips to Purdue, Michigan, Cincinnati, Butler, Indiana, and Michigan State. He’s also been on official visits to AuburnFlorida, and has one scheduled with Michigan at the end of the month.

Bidunga played in front of several college coaches over the weekend. Auburn’s Bruce Pearl, as well as assistants from Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Florida, and others were spotted scouting him. He discussed what it was like playing with in front of so many high-level coaches.

“That’s pretty good because it shows they have interest in you to come watch you play,” he says. “You just have to keep developing, playing hard, so it’s pretty exciting.”
