Ole Miss offers four-star power forward Sammie Yeanay during in-home visit

Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard was on the road this week with his assistants, Wes Flanigan and Al Pinkins. The trio traveled to Florida to check in on Compass Prep (Ariz.) power forward Sammie Yeanay. Before they left, they extended an offer to the four-star prospect.

Yeanay, who played at The Rock School (Fla.) in 2022, will transfer to the powerhouse program in the desert for his senior season. The 6-foot-9, 220 pound recruit is now the No. 90 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. He averaged close to a double-double as a junior and shot right around 39 percent from three-point range.

Florida, Alabama and Wake Forest are the in the top three early.

Per his Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gators lead the way at 72.7 percent with Alabama (5.8%) and Wake Forest (5.0%) coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ole Miss is currently running fourth at 4.1%. But, now with him transferring to play his final year of high school at Compass Prep his recruitment could be wide open.

Sammie Yeanay recently drew rave reviews at the Nike’s EYBL Session 1 in Georgia.

On3’s Jamie Shaw was on hand for the entirety of the event. And so were several Power 5 staffers were there to watch the Florida prospect closely.

“He was very productive,” Shaw said. “You like his hands around the basket as he finishes powerfully off a base of two and attacks the boards with a purpose.”

Al Pinkins is an excellent recruiter and has a knack for developing big men.

While in Oxford, he coached Ole Miss’ all-time leading rebounder in Murphy Holloway and all-time leading shot blocker in Reginald Buckner. Holloway was eventually named All-SEC First-Team while Bucker earned SEC All-Defensive Team honors during Ole Miss’ SEC Tournament title run.

In his only year at Baton Rouge, Pinkins worked with Ben Simmons, the NBA’s top overall draft pick in 2016. He was named National Freshman of the Year and was top five in the SEC in points (19.2), rebounds (11.8), assists (4.8) and steals (2.0) per game. And during his stint on Beard’s staff, he helped the Red Raiders reach the Elite Eight in 2018. Pinkins coached both Keenan Evans and Zach Smith to All-Big 12 honors.

The frontcourt whisperer has worked with Kenny Blackshear Jr., Colin Castleton, Scottie Lewis, Tre Mann and Keyontae Johnson while at Florida.
