2024 On3 Industry Ranking five-star defensive back locks in Texas official visit

One of the nation’s top-rated defensive backs for 2024 has locked in his official visit to Texas.

Waco (Texas) Connally cornerback and On3 Industry Ranking five-star Kobe Black will take an official visit to Texas on June 23-25, his father Keith Black confirms to Inside Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is also setting up an official trip to Ohio State in June, but the date is to be determined. With recent stops at Alabama and LSU, the Tide and the Tigers are two other teams to watch in this recruitment along with Texas A&M and TCU. But IT maintains Texas has been strong in this pursuit. With Ryan Watts potentially an early-round draft pick in 2024, Black sees an opportunity at early playing time in Austin. That’s a big factor in his process.

Black is the youngest from a family of plus athletes beginning with his father Keith Black, who played at Kansas State under Bill Snyder and was roommates with College Football Hall of Fame quarterback Michael Bishop. Kobe’s older brother played basketball at the junior college level. Another sibling, Korie Black, is a starter at Oklahoma State.

Black is multi-sport star in football, basketball and on the track for the Connally Cadets, where he competes in the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

In 2022, he racked up 337 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground. He also had 305 yards receiving and five touchdown grabs. He recorded 21 tackles, two interceptions and two tackles for a loss at cornerback – an impressive number, especially since teams would not throw his direction. As a sophomore, Black had 41 tackles and seven pass breakups.

Black is the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 3 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Texas.
