Newsstand: Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman visits historic city
One of the most influential figures in college football visited one of the most historic cities in the United States this week. Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman went to the Aspire Hotel in Gettysburg, Pa., to speak to the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg.
The Battle of Gettysburg (1863) is known as the turning point of the U.S. Civil War. Union Major General George Meade’s Army of the Potomac defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia over the course of three days in early July. Nearly 50,000 lives were lost, marking the most casualties of any battle in the war.
“This is a place you’ve obviously heard about throughout school and in history,” Freeman told ABC27 News reporter Nick Petraccione. “I really want at some point to be able to spend time in this wonderful place.”
According to UND.com, there were seven different ND clubs from around the area in attendance to hear Freeman speak. There was a fireside chat hosted by Executive Director of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, Dolly Duffy, followed by a Q and A with the audience. Per UND.com, the top-three questions centered on the transfer portal, name, image and likeness (NIL) and quarterback Sam Hartman.

Freeman’s week also consisted of a visit to Under Armour’s headquarters.
